Cal is slated to coach the Under 19 Team USA Squad. Here are some important questions to ask going forward:

#1. How many years do you think Calipari will be involved with Team USA?

#2. What type of impact do you think this will have on Kentucky recruiting, particularly in relation to the fact that Coach will be 71 years old next winter, and is officially stepping out of Team USA? Will Cal's emergence and K's withdrawal have any effect on the recent Duke/UK recruiting wars?

#3. As much as Calipari says UK is a ten year job, it appears that he’s becoming more and more entrenched in the college basketball world, with a son who Cal has hinted might stay on for graduate work after his four years; and an open dialogue where Cal has emphatically stated he wants a 40-0 team and a 6 first rounder team before he retires. That said, how many years do you think Calipari stays on at Kentucky?

hope he stays till hes 80

If recruiting gets easier for him (which I think it will) - and by that, I mean locking up elite guys very early in the process - I think he could stay until he's in his late 60s, maybe even early 70s.

People keep hinting at the NBA, but they've long-ignored what really makes Cal happy - all of these elite guys choosing him over the others. Cal can't get that in the league. At Kentucky, he gets to live through his NBA guys while at the same time recruit and subsequently coach the next crop of elite long-term NBA guys.

Right now, Cal's active list is impressive, and he's not even sixty years old yet...

Rose
Evans
Wall
Bledsoe
Knight
Ulis
Murray
Booker
Goodwin (just signed another 10 day contract with the Nets).
Young
Liggins
And. Harrison
MKG
Lyles
Patterson
Jones
Randle
Davis
Noel
Kanter
Cousins
Towns
WCS
Skal
----
About to add: Monk, Fox, Bam.

That will be 27 guys next fall, all active (assuming some guys like Young, Goodwin and others survive the fall roster cuts).

Cal will continue to add to this list, and once it exceeds 30 guys on an annual basis (that will happen within 3 years, given player retention and some of Cal's fringe guys not lasting much longer), and when it does, we'll hear Calipari talk about it relentlessly. If UK wins it all with Brad on the squad over the next three years, you'll see Calipari's thirst for more morph exponentially.

I think he stays until he's in his late 60s.

The basketball USA "job" makes Cal's recruiting job much easier. Kids like I'm and he will charm them to death while making them better. It really helped K's recruiting and it will make Cal an even more successful recruiter if that is possible to conceive, (LOL)

It's going to be huge. It was for K and it will be for Cal. Do not be surprised to see total monster recruiting classes for UK in 2018 and 2019.

Also I think the selection of Cal will be huge for USA Basketball. Cal is a marketing genius and K really didn't focus much on the marketing of USABB. Cal will have the games on ESPN prime time, celebrities showing up, all that stuff. Many basketball fans don't even know there are world championships every summer. They will now.

It's not like we need the help in recruiting, but Cal coaching the U 19 USA team is like a kick to the nuts of other coaches recruiting players that he will be coaching on that squad. He will get to see first hand who he really wants and get to coach them up. Phenomenal time to be a UK fan and I fully expect another title within 3 years.

You have to assume that 3 or 4 off this incoming class will likely not be 1 and done. Possibly adding Zion Williamson, Romeo Langford, and a couple more highly ranked players from the '18 class and you have the potential for an incredible lineup in 2 years.

Key is for his surrounding piece to step up. Relieve the pressure / work of coaching at UK. So he can become figure head like Coach K is for Duke.

he can stay long time and have a huge impact.

Camby ?

O ty for info . I wonder how many total he has helped get in the league ?

I think he's up to 41 guys who played in the NBA, with 40 guys outright drafted.

Add the three from this year's team, and it's up to 43 outright drafted, maybe 44 if Briscoe sneaks in.

If Cal lasts another decade, he'll probably have coached over 70 draft picks total, maybe closer to 80.

It's significant, and will probably result in a few other coaches (and sports writers) having John Chaney "You don't need this edge!" style meltdowns.

I know one thing, I'd make sure Langford, Williamson and Bagley not only make the team but play big minutes. Chances are they make it anyway due to talent

Let's be fair though.. the US Coaching may make recruiting easier, but on the other end, it's still a job. I think he can handle it, the dude is a machine.. But there's only 24 hours in a day. I hope he does it for a few years, maybe close to a decade, but it might be tough to do into his late 60's while coaching Kentucky..
