Potential new prospect?

Seems to me to build a roster in the current environment you would be better off to get five $3M and three $1M player for an 8 man rotation at a total of $18. Seems like we are going more for eleven or twelve players at $1.5M each.

Barring multiple injuries, an 8-man rotation is plenty. I would quality over quantity.

Do you have any basis at all for the numbers you're throwing out? And why do they even matter?

The numbers were just for example. The point is you only have 5 player on the floor and most teams focus down to a 7 or 8 man rotation. I'm just saying it seems to me it would be better to have 5 studs than 10 good players, but it seems to me we are taking that "more balanced" approach

Your last sentence say it all. Injuries happen often enough here for some reason, that you almost have to plan for the inevitable.
You at least better prepare for it, which is what Pope appears to be doing.
Injuries derailed us last year and many years when Cal was here.
Plus, Pope likes to rotate players in and out before they get fatigued and having an A level player coming in to sub for another A level player, is best case senario.

Until someone comes along and proves that keeping fresh players on the court at all times, is a better way to do it.
I feel like Pope won a lot of games last year he shouldn't have, due to talent disparity, because his team had fresh legs in the 2nd half.
Duke had key guys cramping up and wearing down and Gonzaga flat ran out of gas.
I would rather have 12 really good players, than a few top end guys, backed up but B level players.
But, who out there has a 7 man rotation that is THAT much better than our top 7?

I want at least 10 guys that can play as rotation players. If only 8 play, that’s fine, but you need 10 at a minimum.

I like what Pope has done. He has 12 (expecting Oweh back) guys that should be able to contribute.

12 is a good number for a basketball roster. That gives you plenty of cushion in case of injury.

If you only have 8, you could be decimated by injuries rather quickly.

JQ is already twice the offensive player that Amari Williams was. The averaged right at 11 a game as a 16-/17 year-old. Amari had no offense besides a put back. JQ has room to improve no doubt but him at his worst is as good as Amari at his best

Players do get better from year to year. Try not to forget that
I'm very aware SOME players get better. Not knocking JQ I just know coming off a surgery there are a lot of IFs in recover and the psyche. MM is still a RAW offensive player who is a more passive player from what I have watched. We are not sure how the Euro will translate to the college game.

Offensive wise with the comparison for JQ and Williams I never compared the 2, but offensive wise Amari is a shade better than JQ as both scored mainly on put backs, but JQ better defensively.

I think it will take time for Jelavic to get used to the college game. I really don't expect him to make a huge impact this year.

I was reading this article that basically said Pope is looking for another player or 2 to be projects for the future.

How many do we need? Everyone that goes in the portal someone thinks we need them

I don't think Moreno is raw at all. In fact he may be the most skilled big on our team next year. BG is raw. Moreno is a more deliberate type player that is perfect eventually for popes offense. Relies on footwork to get places. He's not very strong though.
