Post up absence this season?
I personally think the less post up's in the offense the better. I'm so excited to see these guys spreading the floor, and playing more of an NBA style offense, this season...
Don't get me wrong, I want to see some post up plays, in certain ISO situations, but I don't think a fluent offense for us will require that many. In college ball, this type of offense can become stagnant, and with our personnel this season, all 5 guys should be buzzing around the court at all times...
I love the idea of spacing the floor, and creating one on one match ups on the perimeter, then drive and kick...
Now I realize this is the premise of the dribble drive offense, but I think it has potential to be very aesthetically pleasing this season, we have guys who can really light it up shooting wise, from mid range and the three point line...
Once this type of offense gets flowing, the team can share the ball and really become difficult to stop. It's a difficult concept to comprehend, because this offense in its infancy is based off of a one on one matchup, but once that man is beaten, then you can do some serious damage by rotating the ball correctly... So while it requires ISO situations, it is ultimately a great form of TEAM basketball and offense...
If these guys really trust one another, and move the ball around, we have the personnel (SHOOTERS) to really see this offense flourish...
I think we are going to have to rely on putting the ball in basket this season, and not so much our defense, to win games...
It will be a change from Calipari teams of the past, and while great defensive intensity will still be required to win a natty, it will be a fun change of pace for us fans, and we have the capability to put some big numbers on the board scoring wise...
This could be considered a space and pace concept of an offense, with a few wrinkles thrown in here and there, depending on the defense being thrown at us... It can also be potentially DEADLY to opposing defenses... Bring it on...
