sub-NBA developmental leagues are money losers, there isn't a strong connection to the city, as most markets are saturated and the product is sub-NBA level (=Lebron is coming to your city).
However, teams associated a college will always have a fervent fan base. We no NCAA, the age restriction (years out of HS) could be eliminated, allowing guys to play as long as they can. It would be fun to watch.
