* Huge win for the Cats tonight in winning their first SEC road win in .... well, too long. This game was a blended version of the old Kentucky and new Kentucky which made for an emotional roller coaster to watch unfold.
* First half - we saw the new Kentucky, as well as I have seen a KY team play in years. Offensively, while the game started off like the old Kentucky with a dropped pass, an INT, and a SC TD ... the offense was otherwise very impressive, in total control of the game. Defense did a good job as well. Second half - we saw the old Kentucky, the offense was non-existent until the last drive of the half, but the defense kept the Gamecocks out of the end zone something that we wouldn't have seen in previous years.
* Penalties and turnovers were huge tonight. Cats turnover to start the game leads to USC TD, while a USC fumble leads to 2pt return by the Cats. And, then at the end, after a phantom holding call against JD Harmon, Westry picks off the pass and then we have to wait on the 50-50 fumble replay. On the penalty side the Gamecocks had a couple of bad personal fouls (should have had a late hit out of bounds, but the Cats had a couple of holding calls to start the 2nd half that likely negated eventual first down drives by the Cats. Penalties and turnovers factored heavily into the outcome of this game.
* One thing that I am waiting to see is who on the team will the Cats be able to rely upon to make the big plays to win games when things get difficult. It seems that Boom Williams is one of those players. Others seem to be on the cusp ... just need them to mature into those roles.
* Just a huge, huge, win for the Cats ... great day for the Cats... did I mention that the Louisville lost today as well.
* Up Next: Cats vs. Gators on Saturday in Commonwealth Stadium. Can the Cats end the losing streak against the Gators? They certainly can do it, the question is will they. Another huge opportunity for this growing UK football program. It will be a lively atmosphere next Saturday night.
