I know it's a crazy idea, but I think we should try putting Briscoe on the ball as the primary PG, moving Ulis to SG and Murray to the other wing.
Cal clearly loves Briscoe for his defense, and he does play hard, which is something you can't say about many on this team, especially when they go on the road. But you simply can't afford to play him on the wing anymore. He is the primary reason our offense gets so stagnant. LSU literally wasn't guarding him tonight. His guy was just slumping down into the lane, which makes it impossible to create lanes for a "dribble drive."
What Briscoe can do is penetrate. Would we be better having him initiate the offense from the top, get in the lane, where's he shown some ability to finish, or kick out to Ulis and Murray on either wing. Defenses would have to respect both wings, and it might open up more space for us to work with.
The downside, obviously, is Ulis is our best player, and has been playing great. But I don't see any scenario where our offense thrives with Briscoe on the wing. It just might - and I emphasize might - with him initiating the offense from up top. At this point, we clearly need some "tweak."
