I know it's a crazy idea, but I think we should try putting Briscoe on the ball as the primary PG, moving Ulis to SG and Murray to the other wing.

Cal clearly loves Briscoe for his defense, and he does play hard, which is something you can't say about many on this team, especially when they go on the road. But you simply can't afford to play him on the wing anymore. He is the primary reason our offense gets so stagnant. LSU literally wasn't guarding him tonight. His guy was just slumping down into the lane, which makes it impossible to create lanes for a "dribble drive."

What Briscoe can do is penetrate. Would we be better having him initiate the offense from the top, get in the lane, where's he shown some ability to finish, or kick out to Ulis and Murray on either wing. Defenses would have to respect both wings, and it might open up more space for us to work with.

The downside, obviously, is Ulis is our best player, and has been playing great. But I don't see any scenario where our offense thrives with Briscoe on the wing. It just might - and I emphasize might - with him initiating the offense from up top. At this point, we clearly need some "tweak."

Defenses are starting to completely sag off Briscoe. Now his best attribute - driving, is becoming less valuable. Lane is more packed, leading to more contested shots.

Since he cant make the defense pay with Jumpers & he's not athletic enough to finish in traffic or blow by defenders, it'd just cause more stagnation on offense.

Lets just leave the rock w/ one of the best decision makers in CBB.

A tweak implies a minor adjustment. This team will not be better with any number of minor adjustments. Cal has his hands tied with what he's got to work with this year. Not really a matter of coaching at all. The parts just aren't there for consistent strong performances. He should have tried to hang on to Booker and Lyles but that's just not his MO and maybe he couldn't have anyway. It will always be a crap shoot when you turn over the roster every year.

Briscoe- 0 assists tonight.

Can't be the primary ball handler if you can't set up your team mates for baskets.

The "tweak" needs to be a U Conn Offense where Tyler is the focal point by using his ability to either create or shoot.

Lots of holes on this team.

Only 2 starters can score.

Only 3 guards can shoot consistently - Ulis, Murray, Mulder (we think)

2 guards have atrocious shooting numbers - Briscoe and Hawkins

1 SF has no offensive game - Mathews

1 SF has no defensive game - Willis

2 PF have no offensive game - Poythress and Lee

1 Center is too weak to hold position and lost all confidence - Skal

2 centers have no experience and their ages combined are younger than 90% of this board.

Lots of tweaking to do in a couple of months...

Ulis
Murray
Willis
Poythress
Lee

That line up can play traditional position specific basketball. It gives multiple scoring options and good size.

-Briscoe/Hawkins can relieve point duties or be situational as defensive stoppers.
-Mulder/Matthews can relieve the 2 and 3 spot. Situation can dictate whether and athlete or basketball player are of benefit.
-Skal can relieve the 4 and 5 spot, and we can give him 10 to 15 minutes of suck time.
-Humphrey/Wynyard can be situation bigs when fouls or beef are needed.

I think it's clear that's our best lineup. You play Willis at the 3 and Poy at the 4 on offense, then flip them on defense if needed to have Poy guard the better of the 3-4. The only trouble is, Cal clearly is committed to Briscoe. So if he's going to be on the floor, I think we have to try to find a way where he isn't killing the offensive flow.

Here is your tweak ... sit skal on the bench where he belongs, place briscoe next to him, put hawkins on the floor with ulis, murray, mulder, and lee
lmao..who plays the 4 Mulder???lol average height would be what 6'1
Ulis
Murray
Poythress
Lee
Skal

I don't think Willis is the long term prospect that Briscoe may be either. I just think in terms of college basketball, and that is our most complete ready to compete line-up. Easiest line up to define roles in.

I think we ask a lot out of Briscoe playing off the ball. It's foreign to him and opposite of how he learned the game. Murray was said to be a PG, but he plays the 2 naturally.

Briscoe shoots like he has never played the game before...

It has to be all in his head, i go back to watch his highlight films and he never misses...

Briscoe is a liability on offense at this point. He brings nothing outside of trying to take his man to the hole and if he gets fouled hes not making his FTS. I cringe every time he shoots a jumper.... or free throw for that matter

Briscoe needs to be on the bench and maybe mulder in his spot why not develop molder if Briscoe is going to leave anyway? Mulder can guy some shots and if he gets volume he could be a guy to help open it up.

What does skal give us? Other than turnovers. Please inform me.

Skal is one of those players I have to think of as my son. I have to look and see that he is trying hard and he is disappointed in himself and I feel sorry for him and i root especially hard for him to do good. Otherwise I would throw the damn remote control through the TV...

I really don't see him trying at all ... I mean I just see him out there looking like Jared Carter ... we all remember Jared Carter.

Most of us try not to... Roy smoked Tubby on that one.

Briscoe getting the mouth piece back should be the tweak.

Outside of that I don't know if anything else will work.

Maybe the tweak should be actually running an offensive play every now and then. Maybe a screen? A pick & roll? Something?

Almost nothing right now, but i know we will not compete for a F4 without Skal..Let him play and learn on the job...He is a very good player just needs time..Did you not watch any of him before he got to UK?
