Not only students. I also got the call myself. Well, not that one exactly. But I got a call with a recorded message from Coach Pope.
Wonder how they did it, maybe sent it out to numbers registered in Lex?
That’s one way to win back all the fan base!!
This is going to be our most popular coach in history hands down. The 30 and under crowd are just brainwashed from a snake oil salesman. Once they get a taste of the Mormon Pope….
He’s no doubt going to be our most beloved coach we’ve ever had.
It’s been a while since we’ve been told we matter and our program matters. And Calipari NEVER had to act like it doesn’t matter. He simply wanted to create an atmosphere that he’s all that matters. It’s how he does what he does, but he could have done both and chose to only make it about himself.

Maybe. Also could be some database from buying tickets, although that is through Ticketmaster but I’m sure they share the info with UK? Although, I do have a Lexington number.

He very well could be, but at the end of the days W’s and L’s will determine how loved he is here. Just the way it is. I will always love Pope, and I hope with every fiber of my being it goes well. I don’t want our fanbase to turn on a guy who loved this University for real and won a NC here.

I never understand why there is always this binary rule people create. Not you, you’re exactly right. But why can’t coaches step away if they’re not performing? Why can’t Calipari promote the Team and the player? Why can’t I have two chicks at the same time instead of one?

If he’s our most popular coach ever, it’s because we won games, nothing more. Pitino is a legend to a big part of this fanbase and he’s scum
Obviously you have to win. But given that he will, and he will, he will go down as our most popular coach of all time. Most people have forgotten how incredibly awesome Mark Pope is as a person. So much so that he’ll probably need to tone down the awesomeness just a tad.
Being a coaching legend and being beloved are two very different things
Mark is already one of those things; I hope he also becomes the other
I love his passion and energy for this job. Hell, I hope he succeeds so much here that he will want us only to hire alumni going forward haha. It would be great to see him win a title before Scheyer and Hubert.

What? I'm not a therapist, and I didn't stay at Holiday Inn last nite. But even I can translate Cal's statement to mean "I messed up my legacy at UK, I hope I can get it back here then retire".
