Could it be that Pope is experiencing a "you need to pay your dues before you get the calls" situation? Coach K went through this, believe it or not, when he started in the ACC. Pitino went through it early on at UK. I think Pope is going through it this year, and he knows it. And by him not going crazy over it, I think it will pay off starting next year.

I hope so. Not counting on it.

I think a lot of what we’re seeing are these conferences catering to their very best teams for seeding purposes.

It was obvious against Tennessee the refs wanted Tennessee to win. My guess is so they’d have a chance at a 1 seed.

It finally got to the point they had to call it straight up because it was obvious UK was the better team.

That ref baiting Mark Pope was something I have rarely seen out of an official in any sport, that I watch at least. He should be suspended but we know there won’t be any accountability!

I think the officiating is just poor everywhere overall. Every time the office moves to 'adjust' or 'clarify' a rule it makes the game harder. SOME of it is the players not being able to adjust to how the game is called. Some of Kentuckys problem is simply quickness.

And SOME is Coach's direct quotes that they are coaching players not to foul...which leads to tentative play and bad positioning.

But in all truth it's really poor game calling overall.

I have very little confidence that these refs aren't corrupt! That includes football!
Just to much money at stake.
The way that gambling is being pushed on TV by celebrities and even retired coaches makes me fear for future point-shaving scandals. No one can make enough money to ignore the professional gamblers who are doubtless calling .

I think you are dreaming. No one is thinking he has to pay his dues then we will treat him fair. Think about that? Really. I think it is far more sinister. I use to laugh at people who said it was gambling but I don't know anymore. The refs have treated UK horrible for 15 years at least. Something isn't right. Oweh not a single free throw despite multiple drives to the basket. Refs are not fair or consistent and something is up.

I've thought all about why we continue to get the shaft from refs, even at home. I thought it was just Cal. Then maybe just Kentucky's historical dominance.

But the one thing that resonates the most (two, really) - refs are a fraternity that looks after each other. The whole Higgins thing - refs are taking it out not on UK, but the fans. That's #1 on my list. #2 is that UK is a great spread to gamble and make money on - I fully believe there are some (maybe even many) refs that gamble through anonymous online means, and thus they spend their time in games - especially games that involve UK - managing those spreads for their own benefit.
