I prefer the latter...stupid to win the tip and then give it away if you ask me. Just IMO.Originally posted by KA4Prez:
Yeah, along with WCS and Towns. Instruct Towns to tip the opening tip out of bounds or one of those Seniors foul a UF player right away.
Is it a tradition under Cal? Either way, it's not a bad decision regardless. They are walk-ons.Originally posted by FltDoc:
A great tradition... let them play until UK goes down by 4, OR...., until 3 min. is reached...whichever comes first...
Go CATS!
There is no tradition to start senior walk ons on senior day. Joe B Hall, Eddie Sutton, Rick Pitino, and now Cal have all sat walk ons on senior day. They might get to play if the game was out of hand, but that's the only reason senior walk ons play on senior day.Originally posted by FltDoc:

Good Lord Sam.. What isn't clutter to you? You have become the official Clutter Cop of the board. But I do love it!Originally posted by Samwise Ganjee:

It is about the players...the players that are going to win UK a national title. The players that are all probably playing their last game in Rupp in Harrison, Harrison, Lyles, Towns and WCS.Originally posted by kitkoodle:
yes lets not give these seniors who are walkons no respect at all, 2 mins isnt going to kill us, its not like asking to play them the last two mins of a very close game. Stop acting as if we are UofL, UNC, Kansas, and its win at all cost, no matter the player..but also remember, Coach Cal says it is all about the players
I agree with this take, although I wouldn't have a problem if Cal chose otherwise.Originally posted by IamnotRalph:
Look, none of these guys are legitimate D1 basketball players. UK and Coach Cal clearly did them a favor and gave them a wonderful opportunity by allowing them to play and practice with UK. So now we're debating whether or not to grant them another favor by allowing them to actually start a basketball game, pretending they are D1 athletes.
Look, I'm happy for all three of them. They are Wildcats in their heart and in the hearts of UK fans. But, the UK basketball program has given them NCAA championship rings, friendships with NBA stars, wonderful travel opportunities, and much, much more...and received these things despite, from a purely basketball athletics standpoint, not being qualified to receive them. They've already hit the lottery, why should they expect more, and why do some feel the obligation to give them more?
So, no. They don't need to start. We don't owe it to them.
In two years, if Dominique and Derek are still here and still the 11th & 12th men, then yes, they start. They actually sacrificed quite a bit to "play" at UK, are legitimate D1 athletes, and would be deserving of receiving the honor of starting a basketball game for the University of Kentucky Wildcats....and as fans, we would owe them our appreciation for their support and sacrifice.
I agree. Seniors on scholarship OR walkons like Ravi Moss who were contributors. I'd say no to starting guys who would lose a pickup game at the YMCA and are on the team because their parents know Cal.Originally posted by TruBluCatFan:
Scholarship seniors yes. Walkons who never play no.
