Some of you may follow politics closely and obviously regardless of which side of the aisle you fall on, it is emotional. But the 51-50 confirmation of Catherine Lhoman signaled a move that may impact university athletics as the Biden administration is expected to rollback Title IX guidance from he Trump administration. In a nutshell, in 2011 Obama pressed new guidelines that made it easier to have students expelled from universities for being accused of rape and/or sexual harassment. You may recall that the grand jury did not find enough evidence to pursue a conviction of Lloyd Tubman. But even though there was not enough evidence to indict him, the University permanently suspended him because under title IX only the preponderance of evidence is required and there is absolutely nothing anyone can do about it. Why does this matter? Well, now, we have athletes with money and NIL deals. All of which could be lost even without actually being convicted or even indicted of a crime. You take the case of what we just went through with the suspended 6 players. Not enough evidence to indite them, not evidence for the school to find them guilty, but what would happen to them under a tittle IX compliant? The rules change, perhaps the outcomes as well. I'm not suggesting that these guys are in any jeopardy at all. Just using it as an illustration of just how more complicated and dangerous these is about to get for players across the country.
