Players only meeting and bye week...

if we play like we’re capable we can stop the run too.
And UT looks susceptible to the run.

Trevor Etienne ran 23 times for 172 yards on the Vols, and UF totaled 183. Etienne averaged over 7 yards a carry.

Mertz was a very efficient 19-25.

That game was over by halftime in Gainesville, UF scoring 20 points in the second Q, ultimately winning 29-16.

That is UT’s only road game, until this weekend at Tuscaloosa.

The Bama game might tell us a lot. UT might be a Big Dog at home, and not on the road!!!!!

This isn’t last year’s UT. Milton leaves a lot to be desired and if we play like we’re capable we can stop the run too.
Yep. This is not a particularly good Tennessee team and they're certainly not as good as 2022 Tennessee, which makes feel fairly good about our chances to win, but likely to be even more bitter than usual if we don't. In fact, there would probably be more of a reason for fans to pissed off about a loss to Tennessee in 2023 than a loss to Missouri.

Almost a complete 180. Milton and the receiving Corp haven't lived up to predictions, but running game is strong. But defensively they seem a good bit better.

Milton actually HAS lived up to intelligent predictions. He is playing exactly as well as should have been expected, based on his overall history. Unfortunately, the quarterback who, and It's not totally his fault, is NOT meeting expectations is our guy at UK.

I think both fanbases may have been expecting a little more than either QB was capable of delivering.

But as fans we are all guilty of inflated expectations. At UGA we are expecting to not see a drop-off after losing Bowers for at least a month.

TN's fan base are screaming to replace Overthrow Joe with the $8M freshman. TN's gone away from a passing O to a running 0 so they brought in the $8M freshman to handoff. Won't matter vs UK since UK chokes and goes brain dead at the sight of orange anyway.

Not saying UT would have won, but I will say against UF that UT had some very key people out. Mays at C and Mincey at RT. Mays being out was especially bad because he essentially runs the offense, getting everyone set and because we had no one as a backup with meaningful real-time experience. We had a lot of pre-snap penalties in that game. And the UF front exploited those backups. We also lost our starting MLB in game 1 so are having to rotate 2 true freshmen at that spot. UF had 2 long runs in that game, both times because the freshmen were in the wrong gap. They both played well overall, but they still are true freshmen and prone to falling for the eye candy. The good news is that their mistakes seem to be decreasing from game to game. Also, Mertz had a high completion rate, but only threw for 166 yards, so a lot of short throws. And it was really 20 minutes of the game, the last 5 minutes of the 1st quarter plus the 2nd quarter, where UT gave up 26 of UF's 29 points. And yes, you can say I am making excuses, but still, those were critical losses at key spots.

Again, not saying UT would have won, but I think the UT offense is much better with Mays and Mincey back in the lineup, especially Mays, than it was the first 4 games of the season. But the loss of McCoy against SC was a serious blow to the passing game.

You are certainly correct that UT is going to have to prove it can win on the road as our last 3 road games have been ugly - @ UF this season, and @ UGA and @ SC last season. So, UT has to prove it can handle a loud, hostile crowd. We were able to win against TAMU last week because we were able to rely on our running game and our defense. If Milton can't show that he can stretch the field against Bama, and I have no real hope that he can (even when he does the receiver tends to drop the ball), we likely won't be able run the ball with anywhere near the effectiveness we ran against TAMU. I think the Aggies probably have a slightly better front 7 than Bama, but that is negated by playing on the road, where the offense tends to have issues. The Bama crowd will be loud, so I expect a few pre-snap penalties that will have us behind the chains, which will hurt our ability to run efficiently. I do think the offense can function better than it did against UF, but obviously Bama is a much better team than UF, so having Mays back at C is not likely to make enough of a difference.

I think UT's defense, assuming the offense doesn't put it in deep holes, can keep the score close for 2, maybe even 3 quarters, but unless the passing game comes to life, Bama will win by at least 2 scores.

As a UK and UM fan, I concur.

I hope they had a players only meeting. The team leaders, the captains, whoever need to step up and take ownership of the sloppy undesiciplined play. This team has a heck of a lot of potential if they can just harness it and play as a TEAM in a efficient and effective way.

If you have to have a meeting your not confident and your worried. You shouldn't have a player only meeting those never work. Should be full on from the start.

If you combine Stoops record coming off a bye with the fact our teams usually piss down their legs in fear of the mere sight of a Tennessee football uniform, I don’t know how anyone could feel confident about next week.
Yep. I can't see UK winning. I hope I am wrong. Stoops wants to turn things around beating UT would be a good start.

Wait, what???

Nati2 was saying that people that have seen Milton play for years didn't think that he would do too much at UT. One of the teams I follow is UM and Milton showed massive potential when he was at UM for 3 yrs, but never really played well. Thus leading to him getting passed up and him transferring to UT to play his 7,000th year of college ball. He has immense physical tools, but has never put it together.

And I concurred.
