Pitino, McCollum, Golden on Kansas fans wish list for HC

I'm going to talk out of both sides of my mouth for a minute.

1. It's a small thread. Just a handful of unreasonable Kansas fans are posting about Self needing to move on. We know we have our small portion of the fan base that are unreasonable.

2. Why aren't the national media talking about how unreasonable Kansas fans are being? We suffered through 9-16, 2 1st round exits, no 2nd weekends in 5 years. Even then, all the national media talked about how Kentucky is so unreasonable. We have ridiculous unfair expectations.

KANSAS HAS A NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP IN THE LAST 3 YEARS. And now (even if it's a few idiots) some fans want him gone? We would be getting crucified on tv.
You know the answer.

Kentucky is the biggest national brand in CBB despite ESPNs constant pushing of a few other programs. We have the largest and most rabid fanbase. We drive ratings of the sport in general. Anger sells…same as with the news…, riling up our fanbase gets more engagement than writing nice things.

The interesting thing about Kansas is they finished 1st or 2nd in the Big 12 every year under Self except for 1 year (finished 3rd) in his first 20 years. Now that they expanded the conference, he’s finished 5th and is currently tied for 6th with 3 of the newer schools in front of KU.
I think it’s less about the new members and more about the current landscape of college sports with NIL and the portal. Some coaches and administrations thrive in the old format, some in the new. It’s about how you adjust. JMO

You have no logical proof that he is a creep or dodged a bullet. You are assuming he was guilty of the acqused allegations. I will assure you that if he had actually been guilty of the allegations he would have been fired and prosecuted. You are a creep to make the statement that you can tell by looking at him that he was guilty. Dumbest statement that has even been posted on this board. You are a total embarrassment to the University of Kentucky to post such ignorance on this board.
If he was guilty or still is they are taking their sweet time and waiting for the season to be over.

You hit the nail on the head with this statement!

Because even with all that no one cares about Kansas. Yeah Kansas fans do. Yeah basketball fans might. But really - despite their history and great tradition - no one really cares about Kansas.

We aren’t talking school wide but basketball wise Kansas is much more prestigious.
Agreed, but is the difference in prestige big enough to leave an overall better school and athletic program with championship pedigree of its own to tout? I mean… I suppose if they throw a huge amount of money at him, but then it’s about the cash, not the prestige. Head Coaches typically don’t leave UF for a “better program” in any sport. It’s usually going to be for the pros, retirement, or being forced out.

One is a blue blood. These two jobs are not the same.

It’s like being the Sheriff vs deputy assistant
I will say a lot of good and deferential things about the great and powerful UK, but I draw the line at Kentucky. UCLA, UNC, and Kansas can all go kick rocks.

I think the Blue Blood thing is overstated when it comes to this topic. How many schools wanted Billy Donovan? How many want Todd Golden now? Our coaches don’t leave, because UF is a huge brand… even if as you correctly state that we are definitely not a blue blood. The Gator brand is very powerful, though. Everyone knows the logo.

Golden is a creep who dodged a bullet with the recent allegations. You can tell by looking at him that he is guilty.
Besides, I’ve never seen a grown man with more narrow shoulders, it’s unsettling.
What the….???😂😂😂. You have an uncle Festus avatar and you are calling him creepy?

Bill Self can take the Kansas job because basketball is his life. It seems life in Gainesville offers certain, uh.. let's call them 'perks' that Golden may not think exist in Lawrence.

Kansas has a conference problem. As the SEC and the B1G get bigger the Big 12 gets squeezed farther and farther out of the market. That affects everything from money to prestige, which affects NIL which affects recruiting. If they want to stay relevant they are going to have to jump conferences soon.

maybe for football but not basketball Kansas was one of the top NIL basketball teams
Football is the money king. I would guess that Florida football revenue is at least 10x Kansas basketball. Besides, have you been to Lawrence, Ks? I would not want to live there, regardless of the money
My point is that (IMO) Florida is one of the top 5-6 jobs in college sports

Like we saw the writing on the wall with Cal. Self is very stubborn. Granted the situations are wildly different and yes Sslf has two titles but those titles came 14 years apart. And that second one was kinda fluky. He beat Hubert Davis for goodness sakes in a year UNC got hot and then couldn’t finish the job. Had they played Duke I guarantee Self only has one title. Because we all know what would’ve happened in a title game where K was retiring.

So I can see their frustration.
That title was kinda fluky? A title is a title and fluky is pretty much an opinion I don't think any team's fans look back a month or year or decade and say "yea well that only sorta counted as a title because it was fluky. It wasn't the real thing". Crazy thinking there

There's a lot of Talk on the Twitter that the NIL Explosion has removed his advantage.

Everyone knew he was paying players. And all of a sudden, the whole world is able to do the same. We're talking full blown bidding wars.

Maybe there's something to that. I sure hope there is.

But when they got Storr and Mayo to go with Harris and Dickinson, I thought they'd be really good. It felt like he was getting his pick of dudes in the portal. Maybe ot getting the elite freshmen has been the downfall?

Also, the Big 12 just got tougher. He had a free pass to a 1 seed most years. Media talking about Kansas always dominating the conference not stopping to consider what it says about the conference. Enter Houston, Arizona, BYU. Otzelberger turns Iowa State into a contender. He's in a different wild west.
I've said this a million times and will say it again... if you don't think 99% of P5 football/basketball teams were paying kids before NIL, you are absolutely nuts. The dollar amounts may not quite as high but everyone was paying...

A first round upset is fluky, not winning 6 games in the tournament

Pretty sure it was proven that the students made it all up due to his comments on Gaza

I think it’s more like being the CEO of Gucci vs the CEO of Nike. One has a higher prestige in a specific product line, but the other is a much bigger brand with larger overall reach and resources.

Kansas is a boutique, UF is the mall.

Listen, no disrespect to Florida. You guys won back to back titles in recent memory in basketball. Overall, the program is great.

I hate Kansas, UNC, Duke & UCLA. It doesnt change the fact that they are looked at (along with UK) as the top jobs in the sport. Sure, there will always be certain guys (and maybe Golden is one of them) who are content with where they are. If you are a competitor, there’s something about fulfilling a lifelong dream to Coach at a blue blood. We’ll see what Golden does. Bill Self left that Illinois team which had a young Deron Williams, Dee Brown & Luther head.
