I have seen a lot of people making comments that we should have won more titles with our talent and need to win more final four games. I went back and looked at the elite coaches and their careers at their elite schools. Here is what I found

Jim Calhoun - 26 years at UCONN, 3 titles, 4 final fours
Dean Smith - 36 years at UNC, 2 titles, 11 Final Fours
Coach K - 32 Years at Duke, 5 titles, 12 final fours
Roy Williams - 27 years at UNC and KU, 2 titles, 7 final fours
Jim Boeheim - 39 years at Syracuse, 1 title, 4 final fours
Tom Izzo - 20 years at MSU, 1 title, 8 final fours
Rick Pitino- 22 years at UofL and UK, 2 titles, 8 final fours
Billy Donovan - 19 years at Florida, 2 titles, 4 final fours
Bill Self - 11 years at KU, 1 title, 1 final four
John Calipari - 6 years at UK, 1 title, 4 final fours

* Pitino, Calipari, Self all had FF's at non traditional programs

So, the guys who have the best % (50%) of winning in the final four are Calhoun, Donovan, Self. Those are guys that aren't consistently getting there. The coaches that get to final fours more frequently, have worse %'s. Its hard to win a title. But if you can get to a final four on a consistent basis, titles will come. Sometimes they come in years you least expect it, sometimes the teams you think will win it fall short....its just the nature of the tournament....and there is no reason not to think that Cal cant figure out a way to get us to Houston next year in what will be a bad year for college basketball.
