Patrick Towles deserves all kinds of praise.

But I thought everybody said......[thumb2]:football:[banana]:sunglasses::cool2:

This looks like a football team! Stoops record is now 10-18 and getting better. Towles rating is about 130-140. 3-1. That Florida team comes back and beats UT.

All of this and this is still a very young team. Great time to be a Big Blue fan.

I was really aggravated with Towles last week, like most. However, he rose to the occasion tonight and powered us to a big time victory. Hats off to PT.

I've been one of his biggest detractors.

But wow, he shut me up tonight.

Great, great performance by the big guy.
How long will you be straightened out.... Until our next tough game?

Loved how Dawson called some short, quick stuff to start the game. I assume that was at least in part to help get Towles going. If that was the plan, well, it worked!

GBB!!!

I thought Stoops became conservative two times in the game, one at the beginning of the second half...

One of those plays got him started in the 2nd half too when the offense got off to a slow start and he was like 1/4 to start.

It is what it is , he was GREAT tonight. He doesn't have to play as good as he did tonight , but he has to play better than he had been playing. NOBODY was pulling for him any harder than me tonight. I want him to be great .

I have always been a Towles supporter, but have to admit he played poorly against UF (along with the rest of the offense). I don't think he deserved the incessant bashing from SOME of the posters on this board. The guy obviously has always had the physical tools....just seemed like he was having a hard time getting out of his own way mentally. Props to Dawson for a better game plan and apparently he also had a long heart to heart talk with PT about relaxing and playing loose.

Towles played a very good game. He had more time to go through his progressions and most of the time was able to get the throw off much quicker with more accuracy. Part of that is due to using the middle of the field and slowing down the LB rush. We still got beat at the LOS on a number of the pass plays, but he was able to make something good happen. One of the most impressive things we did last night was overcome the 1st and 35 to get out of the hole after the two penalties cancelled a great gain.

It's amazing, when you don't run the ball 5-6 times in a row, throw on first down on occasion, make high % throws, and let Towles run when needed, he looks like a competent QB and that keeps Defenses honest. I said all week I thought it was a lack of confidence in the position but you have to put the ball in the hands of the QB eventually. Running the ball is obviously this team's strength but when you mix up some throws in there, teams can't stack the box. Lo and behold the O-Line played better too when not having to stop 7-9 guys on run blitzes.

I'm still not sold on Towles the stand in the pocket, strong arm passer. I do like the use ithe middle of the field, quick throws, use your legs, scrambler. These seem to be his strengths and he looks comfortable in them. Long may they last.

I was a big Towles critic last week too. He was impressive last night. Hopefully last night was a turning point for him. He looked like a new QB.

Dyersburg huh? Many more pharmacies go up in the burg and we're going to have to change the name to "dyerspills". Go Trojans.

Towels played an excellent game tonight. He Hit his simple targets and played with a purpose. The running game at qb should have been utilized more and stoops has got to stop shooting himself in the foot, which he does a lot. I'm a big fan of stoops but he's got to be more consistent as well. But pat played brilliantly once he remembered, (I'm mobile, I can move!)

Patrick playing a game like this isn't a shock to me. Playing 3 games in a row like this WILL be a shock to me, but that's what he has to do. To be an sec qb you've got to be consistent above all. Playing good 1/3 of the time won't cut it in THIS league.

But I love seeing guys like towels be blasted only to come out and shut everyone up. That's the point of sports and life.

And now that we've produced a different game tape of sorts, other teams will try and force him to make one on throws to the WO and stay in the pocket. The middle won't be there like it was last night.

We will see. Like I said the issue with towels isn't that he can't have a great game. The issue is consistency at the qb spot. The next 2 games will tell an awful lot.

Dawson called a great game. A noticeable upgrade as a playcaller. Plus we went back to the inverted bone, which has been good to us this season. We sort of abandoned it last game.

My only complaint is, we're still running the predetermined read, on the "read option". We need Towles to keep here and there to really make that play effective.

Towles did play an outstanding game. He had the same amount of time hes had all season. He just got rid of the ball this game. He took 2 sacks, but 1 was clearly on the RB who let a blitzing defender cross his face coming right up the middle.

Towles has incredible arm talent, but hes still struggling with progressions. When his 1st or 2nd read is open, hes money. He just cant get beyond that. I suspect Dawson will start installing plays meant to read 1/2 or 1/3 of the field only to help Towles.

Id imagine having 3 different OC's/QB coaches has really been an obstacle for him.

Towles playing well opened up everything. We sustained drives, scored points, flipped field position, ground out the clock. Just a good day for the entire O.

He actually has a pretty good throwing percentage when you look at SEC competition only this year. Hitting at 64%.

In the South Carolina and Missouri game his totals were 41 for 56, which isn't a to shabby 73%.

If the team plays well around him, he will produce. I think he received to much of the blame for Florida and is getting too much credit for last night. Minus just a few mistakes the offense played very well around him last night.
