That is all. We have no inside presence. Tyler Ulis is not the player I expected him to be, although good. At this point, this team is maybe a Sweet-16 team, if that. Briscoe sorta kills the 3-Guard line-up because you need 3 shooter's to open up spacing. This team feels sorta superglued together. They look nice on paper, but they don't compliment each other. Just a bad loss on a neutral court. We aren't good on offense, and defensively we aren't good enough to keep ourselves in the game. I was under the impression we would be able to out score teams before the season, but it's becoming obvious that won't be the case. Skal essentially being a bust has changed the entire complexion of this team as well.

I'm very disappointed, and I really overvalued this team before the season. Our hope is that maybe they overcome the deficiencies as we have seen teams do in previous years.

I'm not sure. I think Skal is what he is as far as rebounding and defense is concerned, but I think Cal is waiting to see if he will put it together offensively. At one point in today's game, Skal was blocking his man out, and the rebound came and bounced out towards the baseline. Instead of running to the ball(Skal was closest man on the court to the ball), Skal continued to block his man out to the Free-Throw line looking lost. Just not a lot of very good basketball I.Q. on that play. I mean, I guess he was finally blocking someone out. Just boneheaded:

Get used to it, you will see more of it this year. 9-2 currently, this board will implode with a performance like this next week. True analysis, these guys dont play together. I think we all know where this is heading so if you have any spring projects, I suggest you go ahead with them. Murray-ballhog, Skal? Im not really sure what or who he is but if he's a lottery pick then I'm an astronaut. Look at the road in the SEC this year, go ahead and mark down a loss at Vanderbilt, LSU, Tennessee, Georgia, Florida and Mississippi. Throw in a throttling on Jan. 30 at Kansas and this team has 9 losses easy. Looking like a 5 seed maybe a 6 and out after the first weekend.

Murray was the reason we didn't get blown-out. Ball hog? That's ridiculous. Of all the things you could fault this team for, you picked that.

The fact is this team doesn't play team ball. Could there be a cancer? Sure. Could some be looking at the draft? Sure. Could it be something else? Yup.

It's not a team. As far as Skal goes, he's bad. There's nothing else to it. He's not what he was projected to be, and that's on cal.

How much longer does Cal stick with Skal?
I'm thinking all season, and it worries me. He might make for a great player one day, but he is frustrating as hell to watch right now. In all seriousness what is he bringing to the table? His offense has been nonexistent since we started playing teams with players over 6'5. He's not grabbing many boards, and the few he grabs he gets outmuscled for. He never seems to be in the right position and doesn't know how to position his body. These are things a player isn't going pick up on in 2 months.

I don't know if Humphries is hurt or what, but I'm shocked he got no PT. We are so weak down low, that were just getting manhandled for rebounds. There were several times we had the rebound in our hand and OSU easily took it away.

I just don't see much energy in this team. OSU came out hyped and it looked like we were walking out to a casual practice.

Yes sir, and it's obvious. He drives down the court with his head down, knowing full well that he is going to shoot the ball. We ran our offense maybe once tonight and it resulted in a dunk by Marcus Lee. Yea he scored alot of points but if he passed the ball every now and then and helped run the offense, it sure would be nice

I pointed out that play as well and said that simple play shows Skal is simply a project; that he has zero knack for the game

He was the only reason this game was close at the end. Who did u want him passing to? No one but him was scoring.

He took a ton of shots today because he had to. When he's hitting like he was I say keep chucking it.

That wasn't a neutral court, looked to me like it was 70% UK fans in the stands. Further proves your point.

only problem was he was missing like that in the first half and a big reason why we trailed by 12 at halftime. It's a team game. He can score 55 or 5 but if it's not in the realm of playing a team game, what good does it do anybody? Compare his first half stats and come back to me

I think the key is 5 Position. Upgrade that, and we would look completely different.

We need to get a volume rebounder in there, and control position. We aren't doing it and we are getting killed.

He took far more shots in the 2nd compared to the first. He took over because he had to. The teams shooting was complete crap besides him.

Were you the same person the made the thread about steph curry taking too many shots? Lol

actually there was a lot of UNC fans. I would say UK was 55%. I was surrounded by UNC fans. They weren't doing anything annoying, but just annoying.

Uh no, I saw on here he scored 33 points on 23 shots, Google George Gervin, dude won a busload of scoring titles in the NBA but his teams all sucked. He didn't "take over" he does the same thing every game.

And when does Murray do this?

He only tried to take over this game. And did it because he had to

Well this is the product of Calipari's system. As much as we love these great players coming through here every year it's awfully annoying having to start all over with a new team every year. That's why we always look so far behind in december every year (except last year. I just wish guys like the Harrison's and DJ would stay instead of jumping to the NBA before they're actually ready.

just to mix it up...

ulis
murray
willis
poythress
lee

briscoe only subbing ulis or murray
skal only subbing lee or poythress
matthews only subbing willis
three upperclassmen starting

if the three guard line up doesn't work, then obviously we need to develop a three. got to be willis or matthews or mulder willing to make shots, or at least get rebounds on their man. if we stop pressuring the ball we can still guard the passing lanes with our length well enough to keep teams under 70. don't forget cal has turned our guards lose defensively and so far it's hurt us more than it's helped. we were doing traps at mid court and all kinds of stuff today.

it could work in time with three guards but our guys just haven't been together long enough. the other option is starting briscoe at the pg. just throwing stuff out there since a lot of us our venting.

Our team was just way over-ranked this first third of the season. Simple as that. Top twenty five......maybe. Young, inexperienced. weak.
lol.....kind the same excuses we use for the football team.....but true.

Gonna be a whole lotta 'L's' before all is said and done. This is the Brandon Knight team with no Jorts to gather everyone's admiration for hard work and improvement.

Usually losing to Ohio State is no bad disgrace....in fact I think it's a program UK has a losing record against, historically. This isn't a good OSU team....yet. Might be, likely not a top ten contender.

bad ranking. for us. Life goes on and just might get better.

This isn't the life message boards, you aren't handing down any wise lessons here.

yup.....lose to Louisville next week and the sun will fade to black.
win and we will be back on track to the final four.

Truth is likely a bit in the middle.
the sun will likely just go gray.

as opposed to us losing by 7? Running the dribble drive instead of a 1-5 set maybe gets the rest of guys better looks and some of his misses could have been dunks
We would definitely have an advantage running a 1-5 set, but the refs probably would not let us get away with it. A 1-4 might be interesting, though. (Just playin' wit ya, Smoking).

Anyone complaining about Murray knows zilch about basketball. The only legit offensive threat we have. No other scoring options outside or in. Skal in his dreams will NEVER be as good as say Brice Johnson certainly not in college. It is what it is. The OAD model is always going to be subject to a miss here and there. This year is a miss. (as far as getting to FF .. and we don't yet know if the OAD is really capable of winning it all on any kind of recurring basis.) Usually UK is a tough out in the tourney. I don't see it this year with such an anemic offense. Don't see Cal changing things to match the players he has this year. Just beat UL and we can worry about the rest later.

I was telling my son today this is the lineup we should be starting. IMHO, the 3 guard lineup isn't going to work, we need to get Willis at the 3 and have Matthews spell him.

Well. Interesting thought, but I don't think Willis makes us tougher or better defensively. I feel like those are uk's 2 biggest issues right now-----shooting or lack thereof may be another
