Pat Riley and the Cats in Miami

That was interesting given that Pat Riley has had very little to do with Kentucky basketball as far as I can remember.

Was expecting a video based off the op. There was a cool one there of the team hosting a youth camp though. One kid asked Briscoe for a mouth piece it sounded like. Haha

Also surprising that he can do that type of thing with all the NCAA rules regarding interactions with NBA personnel for college players and teams.

Yeah but now UK has Cal and to Cal that's NOT acceptable...:sunglasses:

This is actually true. Cal will use any advantage, and having Riley as a member of BBN is an avenue he can accentuate. Riley's actually been to some games since Cal came here, and of course Riley was one of the presenters for Cal's HOF induction.

I love the fact that Cal has made UK a beacon for all the former players after Tubby/Gillispie basically closed the door through their sheer apathy.

You may be 100% on point. I wonder however, if Riley interacts with UK more then we realize. What I've read about him, he's not the open, bravado type person. What he does, he does for himself and not for anyone else. Just saying....

I always speak the truth.... :)

That's been a common charge but I think it's unfair. For example he went out of his way to assist in the production of the movie Glory Road, both as a historical advisor but to protect Rupp from any unfair claims.

I think part of the issue is that ever since he started coaching the Lakers Riley has had a full time job whose busy season is during the exact same time UK plays its games. Not to mention that during this time he's lived in other cities. So he really doesn't get much opportunity to attend various functions at UK like many other former UK players do. The time that they recognized the Rupp's Runts team on their 25th anniversary, he was in attendance.

Riley always said good things about Rupp, said he learned a lot from him. There are some other Rupp era stars who I've heard say less complimentary things.

Pat Riley is and will always be a huge Kentucky Wildcat! He has been an ambassador for UK Basketball since he left almost 50 years ago.

Like JP Scott said above, he hasn't had the time to publicly do a whole lot since he has been such a successful NBA coach and GM.

I loved seeing him huddle the team after his speech and leading their break. That was so awesome and told me that he is still a leader of the #BBN!!

This is also another example of why I LOVE Coach Cal as the leader of our program. He uses all of the assets of UK Basketball and Pat Riley is one of if not THE biggest!!

I had the chance to visit with Riles in October. The Heat were playing the Pelicans in an exhibition game in New Orleans and I was staying at the team hotel.

I do not usually go up to public figures I don't know but I could not help it. He was my first UK hero 50 years. He was very gracious. Told me about weekend they were planning for Runts and how he was sorry he missed the 40th cause of coaching conflict.

The perception of his being aloof and not being a big UK guy I had always heard was not right. My few minutes with him confirmed that.
