Pat Forte with a good article on crooked officials

I am not sure I would call that good, especially from a UK fan point of view. He basically makes fun of conspiracy theories and also takes yet another shot at Cal (and UK).

Wonder why Pitino slurper Forde didn't include his main man in his most secure coaches list?

All you need to read from Forde:

"But fatigue is not an adequate reason in the eyes of some Kentucky fans. No, this has to be a conspiracy. Thus Pat Adams has been added to the Big Blue Bad List, which already includes Doug Sirmons and Doug Shows. And the SEC clearly doesn’t value basketball enough to have good officials. And struggling teams get the benefit of the whistle so they can get quality wins over Kentucky. And the black helicopters circling Rupp Arena on game days are sending signals to the refs when to call fouls on the Wildcats. And so forth."

Apparently Forde reads Rupp Rafters. Good!

Forde is the kind of pseudo-intellectual who would scoff at real conspiracies. And that's because people like Forde don't read what available to read per the contrarian view. They have a minimal understanding of real history, and a very peripheral view of history on general. Therefore, it's easy to maintain a place on the borders of Pollyanna Land.

Why would anybody waste their time reading anything from him or from all of the other UK/Calipari Haters. To the ones that do, all your doing is adding fuel to the fire. It's been this way ever since Cal got here so I don't waste my time reading or listening to these IDIOTS.

I find Forde's article to be inherently dishonest. There have indeed been some terrible calls of late, and not just in UK games. That's a legitimate issue.

Yet Forde tries to claim that UK fans believe it's a 'conspiracy'. That intellectually dishonest IMO. One can criticize a particular ref or a particular call, or multiple refs and multiple calls if appropriate without believing it's a conspiracy. That's just a leap in logic that Forde makes for no real reason.

BTW, I've been saying this for years but decided this morning that rather than retype it each time, I'll just make a graphic explaining my proposal for how best to open a communication channel between the general public and the referees, all while maintaining privacy and some decorum.

The hope is that such a system would be effective in getting the referees to make the correct calls in the first place, to avoid having to explain themselves later.

It remains pathetic that 4D comes slumming on this board for article ideas.

When Donovan decided to remain at Florida, he wrote an article with quotes from this board. He was trying to embarrass the fan base, but it was more embarrassing for him.

Ever hear of checking your sources? No. Let's go to an anonymous message board and quote "UKcatfan4eva!" and cite his anger as evidence of the stance a bilious (his term) fan base.

His dig at UK causes his actual point to be dismissed and almost makes a joke of what he originally is trying to say.

I agree Refs are overworked but that's their own choosing with a poor job of policing it by the NCAA and their conferences. The problem also lies in the lack of number of officials available so many games. I don't buy into the conspiracy of officials against Cal and UK or even the SEC being against UK but that doesn't mean officials across the board aren't awful at their job and something needs to be done. But who knows if anything will ever change with the NCAA and the refs. On it's largest stage when mistakes are made that could be game changing typically there are games the next day so almost it's forgotten about. When mistakes happen on the larger stage in football, you have a week for the sports world to dissect it. Juts not the case during March Maddness.

Pat Forde could screw up a wet dream

Forde reads Rafter's. Classic.

Can I ask, at the risk of being really internet yelled at...

Isn't this a little bit of what happens here?

This is so dead on about everything.

That wasn't a good article at all. He makes a point about inconsistencies with refs and then basically says "although Kentucky fans are still jerks for saying it."

And I'm sorry, but refs are calling games poorly and occasionally biased because of FATIGUE? They're not playing the games right? Still just reffing? How old are these guys? 90?

You know that picture someone made of a shirtless Pitino and Forde next to each other? It is my wish that someone sneak behind the announcers when they are on camera with that picture.

And it's funny how Forde forgot to mention that Pitino out and out blamed the refs in his halftime interview of the UK game, as he has done before. Or how Coach K said 'You want a list?' of why he lost his cool.

One bad ref at a time doesn't equal a conspiracy.

The conspiracy is allowing bad refs to continue unchecked. Even give them key assignments because they are company men.

It's like a bad cop. Other cops may know he's a piece of garbage, but you won't hear them say it.

Certain occupations have a tendency to protect their own, and I believe referees fall in that category.

What happens when you take someone who craves authority, give them the power to affect the outcome of a game viewed by millions, with little recourse if they do something wrong?

I don't know, I'm just asking.

Noitice mispelling of Forde's name

Another national writer saying it was the worst call of the week.

I called in jox in birmingham because they made a joke about no kentucky one and done players go to class 2nd semester (discussing Ben simmons) and they also said it was a horrible call.

Don't worry Xception, everyone still agrees with you

Good analogy. When taking drivers ed as a teenager, the instructor told us "about 95% of the policemen out there are decent people trying to do the right thing and make a living. The others are straight-up jerks who get off on throwing their authority around."

It is absolutely not unreasonable to think that refereeing is a profession that could lend itself to the same attitude. A kid who sat on the bench for his high school basketball career and got picked on by his teammates could very well grow up to be Pat Adams.

Forde is a hack. I can guarantee you that if any other team in the country had gotten that ridiculous T that threw the game on Sat. their fans would have been complaining about it.

I think he comes here and reads the comments about the UL scandal and it hurts his feelings.

Forde plays the mocking game when he should be making assertions. Michael Jordan never got a favorable call, Forde? Well, he'd say, "I never said ..." So, it becomes like the famous story of the woman and the wit. (Variously named as Winston Churchill or George Bernard Shaw. )

Wit: Would you sleep with me for a million dollars?
Woman: Well, yes.
Wit: Would you sleep with me for two dollars?
Woman: No. What do you take me for?
Wit: We've already established that. Now, we're just haggling about the price.

Once you accept that Michael Jordan got favorable calls, it's just a question of haggling over the price. So to speak. Forde knows that, but the mocking game is more fun. Despite what fans think the disparity in athletic skill among college players is pretty slight, and there isn't some magic pixie dust that some coaches possess to teach their players how not to foul. The number of fouls in the long run should point toward parity. Someone here pointed out that UK's opponents have been getting called for fouls only around 40% of the the time. UK fouls amount to 60% of the total. Someone do the math. Is that around 66%? Which really isn't parity at all. Something is happening.

EDIT: That "something" needn't be a conspiracy against UK. There are amazingly poorly called games all over the scene. I've posted in another thread about the UVa-Miami game which had multiple wowzers. Is there a general confusion among referees going on? Is there a general but not uniform consensus among officials to NOT call games as tightly as they formerly were? Whatever is happening it is not consistent. .

Does message board conversation represent a fan base, or is it representative of the most engaged fringes of a fan base? It's rhetorical, but the point is Forde isn't consistent with his approach. He'd never mine Indiana or Louisville boards for comments and the publish those as "look at what the crazy IU fans think." If he wants to represent Louisville for example, he'll humanize/personalize it with a quote from a neighbor or respectable business guy booster. With uk he uses the words of some unhinged anonymous internet nut named Mojocat or whatever...
