I really do like that Pope is putting a really outward emphasis on WINNING, and winning at a HIGH LEVEL.
Some coaches try to avoid talk like that because they think it might generate pressure. Pope just embraces it. Love it.

Yep, Cal always talked about taking the team bowling and doing other stuff to take their mind off the game. I'd rather they focus on the game and the gameplan!

Stay locked in on one singular mission. One singular goal. To WIN the next 40 minutes. No looking ahead. No bowling. No downplaying the moment.

Yeah that might work well with a high school team, but these are grown ass men (that get paid to play). No need to baby them.
If they're at UK they should expect (and want) the pressure to win.

Yeah, you sure could tell their minds weren't on the game, especially SEC and NCAA tournament games lately. Against St. Peters and Oakland Kentucky acted like they had no idea what to do or what to expect.
I'm fine with bowling. I'm fine with "the assignment".
The problem with past few years wasn't not caring or distraction. It was playing scared. The teams look defeated before the game. I saw another thread that team should watch tape of last year's game. No. Why?

I'm not really worried about players understanding the assignment tho.

This. Talk is nice but let's see it play out on the court. They are paid employees making bank so I agree they should be focused on the games.
There isn't anything wrong with a team outing for fun n a new city either. Most teams do it and I imagine this UK team has and will too.
