Ole Miss season averages: 3-point FG = .348
all FG = .438
FT = .784

vs. U.K. 3-point FG = .529 on 17 3-point shots
all FG = .492 on 42 2-point shots
FT = .864 on 22 free throws

This game was close primarily because Ole Miss scored an additional 15.317 points vs. U.K. attributable solely to higher shooting percentages.

Any reasonably good team that shoots that much better than their season averages is going to be hard to beat -- anytime, anywhere.

Just MHO, of course.

How many of their free throws were from us fouling jump shooters, or at least being called for fouls against jump shooters? Off the top of my head, I'm thinking 12.

There is no blueprint to beat us if part of the plan is insane luck.

UK is a good 3 point shooting team. The numbers won't bear it out for a long time due to that fluke stretch OOC, but with Booker, Aaron Harrison, and Ulis (although he was off tonight for ONCE), you have 3 very solid to great shooters. Andrew Harrison has also shot the 3 at a decent level so far.

I just saw where we are up to 34% overall from 3 after tonight. So we jumped quite a bit thanks to tonight. Booker at 49%, Ulis still at 44%, Andrew Harrison at 35% (if he shoots close to that for the year, awesome), and Harrison up near 31%. He shoots so many, and has had so many off games, that it will take his average a while to reflect his 3 point prowess, if ever this season.

Let's not forget the Ole Miss bucket that should have been wiped away when they tipped it in while the ball was still in the cylinder. I have no idea how 3 sets of referee eyeballs all missed that call. Game should have been over in regulation with UK winning by 2.

This is the best team we have played all yr, maybe not the best team in the nation any other night , but was the best team last night.

Great thread OP. They truly did shoot out their asses.
And, unfortunately, that's going to happen with more than one SEC team that we play.

More like A++. Man, I have never seen so many fade away threes being hit. It was insane. At the end of the game, I just assumed their crazy shots were going to go in. Hell, they almost made the last second three from an off-balance, hanging in the air shooter...

We had some whistles we shouldn't have gotten / shouldn't have not gotten too. You can agree with Cal that some lack of energy and some getting on our heels helped their performance but the bottom line is they had three guys who were just unconscious and that's the story of the game. I felt glad to be able to watch a game like that. I wish we had played a little better but part of the worth of the game was seeing us find a way to win even though we weren't playing great.

A game most any other Cal team probably would have lost.The TAM game of a few years ago comes to mind.What happens next is the big question,I don't think we will have that much fight on our hands every night in the SEC but we have already had one more than most of us thought we would.

That mid first drought was the first one of those I can remember this year.

Ole Miss,for all their good play gets rewarded with USCjr,LSU,Ark and UGA in their next 4 games.They are likely done for the season.

This is inaccurate, they did not shoot .492 on 42 two point shots. They shot .476 on 42 two point shots. .492 was their overall FG%.

Also Kentucky shot a higher FT% than normal and a much higher 3pt%.

And none of this really matters because you can't just use averages to project points. Those averages are built up of games where they shot well and games where they shot not as well. There probably hasn't been a game all year where they shot what they actually average across the board.

While watching the game I told my sons get used to this, people shooting out of their mind and major contact. I don't think its the blueprint to beat UK but I think it is the best way to possibly beat UK. Its really no different than any less talented team playing against a more talented team would do.

Be lucky enough to be hot (can't really control) + Make it ugly/makem' feel ya + hope the refs let it go and other team gets frustrated and tight at the end = possible victory

In rewatching the game you can't say that our defense was all that bad,we bit on ball fakes several times and that cost us on occasion.Most of the shots they hit were well contested,the shots just went in.

The long dry spell we had in the 1st half was something we had not done very much this season.We had a couple of chances to get some breathing room late but missed key Ft's. When you get in a 1 posession game inside 3 or 4 minutes then just about any team in the country can beat you.

We dodged a bullet last night,it is a good thing we get back on the court fairly quickly.
