Out of boredom, some UK stats from 2010-2022 seasons then split between 10-15 and 16-22. It's pretty ugly.

First, for ranked teams I used ESPN and counted any NCAA opponent with a 6 seed or better as ranked. I did this in a hurry so I could be off in numbers but it's really close. I used normal whole number rounding for everything but NCAA wins.

Overall record: 371-101
OOC P5 record: 58-36
SEC record: 173-54
Against ranked opponents: 62-42
Average season: 29-8
OOC P5 average record: 4-3
SEC average record: 13-4
Average record ranked opponents: 5-3
Average NCAA Tourney wins: 2.4
Overall winning %: 79%
Overall OOC P5 winning %: 62%
Overall SEC winning %: 76%
Overall ranked opponent winning %: 60%

2010-2015

Overall record: 196-38
OOC P5 record: 37-14
SEC record: 82-20
Against ranked opponents: 38-13
Average season: 33-6
OOC P5 average record: 6-2
SEC average record: 14-3
Average record ranked opponents: 6-2
Average NCAA Tourney wins: 3.7
Overall winning %: 84%
Overall OOC P5 winning %: 73%
Overall SEC winning %: 80%
Overall ranked opponent winning %: 75%

2016-2022

Overall record: 175-63
OOC P5 record: 21-19
SEC record: 91-34
Against ranked opponents: 24-29
Average season: 25-9
OOC P5 average record: 3-3
SEC average record: 13-5
Average record ranked opponents: 3-4
Average NCAA Tourney wins: 1.3
Overall winning %: 74%
Overall OOC P5 winning %: 53%
Overall SEC winning %: 73%
Overall ranked opponent winning %: 45%

A couple things really stood out to me. First, even though 2010-2015 was 6 seasons and 2016-2022 was 7 seasons, we only played 4 more games in the second group and won 21 fewer. No wonder we lost the most wins title to Kansas. We lost more than an entire season. Then the average NCAA wins is crazy, from 3.7 to 1.3. How does anyone support Calipari with a straight face? We also lowered our OOC P5 opponents in the second group and still performed worse. We dropped 10% in overall winning %, 20% in OOC P5 winning %, 7% in SEC winning %, 30% in ranked opponent winning % and cut our NCAA tourney wins by 65%.

Calipari is done, has been done and will not be getting better. What a mess Barney has put us into. He should be fired simply for this and Cal should too....but we can't.

I can't wait to hear the excuses.

Well, next year he has a top team. Do you think we go back to 10-15 performance? I don't.

No shot. People are overestimating that recruiting class big time. Dillingham, Wagner and Bradshaw are not Fox, Monk and Bam or Wall, Bledsoe and Cousins.

That said i no longer believe it would matter if they are because 2023 john calipari is not 2010 or even 2017 John Calipari.

One correction. The average # of NCAA-T wins 2016-2022 is 1.5, not 1.3. You cannot count 2020 since the NCAA-T was canceled. We had 9 wins over over the 6 tourneys played those 7 years, and we only played in 5 of those 6 tourneys.

Also one other big difference that you did not include, NCAA-T winning %. 2010-2015 was 84.5%, and from 2016-2022 was 64.3%. That's a big drop.

During those early years you had once in a generation players, NBA all stars walking through the door. That has not happened since KAT in 2015. The only player closest to that level is Bam, since he was an all star, but he wasn't the same type of talent when he was here as say Wall, Cousins, or AD.

But don’t you remember last year when UK beat Tennessee and Kansas like really super bad?

Seriously though thanks for the summary. It definitely is a trend and not just a bad game here or there.

I’m afraid that next seasons freshman aren’t anywhere close to what some believe them to be. I mean, they are ranked high, but quality compared to some of our other top classes is not quite the same. Being the best of an average class isn’t quite the same. So, I’m not convinced on next season yet.

@BigBlueFanGA nice number crunching.

Remember when everybody was afraid to play at Rupp and Cal went literally more than three years straight before losing even a single home game? I’ve got no beef with people who only want to support him. But when people try to support him by pretending he’s the same class of coach now as he was then, that’s what pisses me off. What’s wrong with having someone’s back and still being honest and sane?

Yeah, I knew I included the no tourney year. I just didn't find the change very significant. Yes, good catch, thats a huge drop.

Nice analysis. Several counterpoints:

1. 2010-15 was historically great. Only 2 other coaches ever went to 4 Final 4s in 5 seasons, Wooden and Coach K. So, that is rather high standard to maintain.

2. 2016-19 was in no way a down period.
115-33
Average season 29-8 for 77.8%
UK won 5 of 8 total SEC championships (2 regular season + 3 SECT titles)
Finished in top 25 all 4 years, 3 in AP top 10
9-4 in NCAAT with 3 Sweet 16s, 2 last second Elite 8 losses, one to eventual champs
totally shafted of possible title in 2017
If one is title season or we suck, then one would be disappointed in that era. If one has lived through many tournament losses throughout their lives. maybe not so down.

I've been a UK fan since 1977. I've been through plenty and Cal has sucked for a long time, 16-19 included.

Good to see some more on the boat. Scales falling off of eyes around here these days.
