OT maybe: Are trips to foreign destinations worth it?

I see your point, but let's not forget the insane amount of violence that takes place on college campuses, malls, theaters, city streets, etc.

Obviously, there are some tumultuous places around the globe that should probably be avoided, but I don't think they're anymore in danger in a place like Barcelona than they are at home, or playing at Madison Square Garden.

Good post, I was thinking the same. Also, tumultuous; noice. Very noice.

I was in Turkey a few years ago and felt much safer there than my trips to New Orleans, Los Angeles and Baltimore. I literally almost got killed in New Orleans. Now that has changed the past few years but it was a pleasant surprise to see Istanbul and other prosperous foreign cities.

There have been a lot of shootings around the UK campus and Lexington is far from a safe place to be after midnight. So be aware and be safe no matter where you roam.

The Coach Call and team USA trip to Egypt went off without any complications outside of the on the court loss. Unfortunately, all it takes is one misstep for things to go horribly wrong. Do you think something like this will keep teams closer to home.

You make it sound like we had a choice in the matter.

You know that was a FIBA tournament, right? FIBA decides where its tourneys are played, we go wherever they tell us, and FIBA has no reason to keep its tourneys all near the USA just to make things easier for our boys.

WTF are you rambling about. Erase that waste of a post and start over again.

I just spent a week in Jordan and felt safer there than I do walking around at night in Dayton. Things can always happen but fluke killings are much more common in that states than terrorist killings are in civilized countries

More likely to get shot by an African American in a major US city than a Muslim.

Just saying. It's true.

I know the shit Storm I'm about to get.
This is true, not because African Americans are exceptionally violent, but rather because Muslims are generally some of the most gentle people. An overwhelming majority are great people.

I think it smart to always be aware of where you are, and potential risk, but I wouldn't discourage anyone from travelling abroad. I've been in every country in western Europe except Spain and Portugal. Despite this I still hope to get to both. As many have said much more eloquently than I can, we can't let fear dictate our lives. Any of us who commute could die in a car wreck on the way to work tomorrow. Does that stop us from going to work?

Regardless of reason, it's always good to visit anywhere else. This is a great big, fantastic world. See it. Experience it. Don't let a very minor contingent of nincompoops keep you from traveling.

You're both right. Sort of. But the most overwhelming reason you're more likely to be shot by an African American in a large US city is because statistically there are FAR more African Americans than Muslims in that particular city.

I agree, most Muslims are that way but the problems are those who feel the need to destroy non-believers, they will always be dangerous.

Anyone who doesn't agree with me is a white nazi supremacist!
His post was anti-black and anti-Muslim. I've spent significant time in the Middle East. My guess is neither of you have and your ignorance has made you afraid of what you know nothing about.

Ok? So because you perceived his post on a message board as "racist" that means he's (and me apparently?? Lol) is a nazi supremacist?
Yeah... that seems super legit !

And here we go. Start with the "you're racist " accusations (based on absolutely nothing ) and now personal insults ... calling me/ us "ignorant."

It's very predictable.

I'm very well cultured as a matter of fact. I think, with all due respect, it's you who is speaking in a way that illustrates you don't know what you're talking about. It's quite pitiful actually :/

That and the obnormally high rate at which blacks kill people.

This is how the left and the media have treated Trump from the beginning. To this day they have zero evidence of him being racist.

Well let's see. Poster #1 makes a kind generalization about a group of people. Poster #2 says horrible things about the same group and then attacks poster #1 for saying those kind things. Poster #3 also atacks poster #1 for saying kind things. Posters #2 and 3 are racist.

And I never called him a nazi supremacist but he is racist. That's a fact. And you are for doubling down on his comments.

Why didn't you settle down over there and you could post your views surrounded by your loved ones. However, editing might have been a little difficult with that hostage bag over your head.

Bet Syria would be fantastic to visit right now.

Baltimore may be the scariest place I have been. There were posts of new Orleans that felt bad but downtown was great.
