OT: Loserville prepared for SACS accreditation visit

Unfortunately, SACS is basically powerless when it comes to existing major universities. The most they can do is put a school on probation and issue a public reprimand, as they did with UNC, which amounts to nothing. They will never pull the accreditation of a major University.

The true role of SACS (and I speak from personal experience) is to accredit new schools and new degree programs at existing schools.

The SACS action, if any, is based on the shaky financial (endowment, etc.) situation brought on by the foundation scandal. Has nothing to do with academics, like uncheat's did. Happened to KWC a few years ago when its endowment dropped some; they fixed it and no on-going problems.

But I agree, SACS will almost NEVER pull accreditation from a major university. Probation, however, is an embarrassment to schools.

Here's an example of being on SACs probation, which to me means nothing:
Probation is a public status signifying that an accredited institution is no longer in compliance with one or more of HLC's Criteria for Accreditation. Adams State University's accreditation remains in effect during the probation period, during which time we will address HLC's recommendations. Adams State will provide evidence that we have corrected the deficiencies identified as part of the probation decision. Once we document we have corrected the deficiencies and complied with HLC criteria, ASU will return to normal accreditation status with no lapse in accreditation

All universities have to do is simply correct the concern of SACs and the probation period will be exonerated with zero punishment. It is an empty threat IMO.

And in all seriousness, we wouldn't want SACS to actually do anything about this. Sports rivalries are fun, but we all have friends and family that attend/have attended UofL, and losing accreditation would have real world consequences related to the value of their degrees.

Good Lord UNC set up classes specifically to help kids get good grades and only received probation. SACS is a joke and everyone knows

American accrediting associations helped create standardized degree programs across the country making possible transfer of credit. It most of the world that is a problem. The EU, for example, did not address the transfer credit from one European university to another until 25 years after its beginning. We are ahead in many areas because such "joke" organizations exit.

Yup. I did my bachelor's at U of L and am currently in my second year of the master's program. The music school there means the world to me, and I know many top-notch musicians to come out of U of L.
