Jimmy Butler scored 40 pts in the second half. I remember watching Jimmy Butler at Marquette and I never thought he would become the player that he is right now in the NBA.

Same here. A fairly average college player who's developing into a superstar NBA player. Just shows you never know how these guys are gonna translate to the next level.

I think he's a good example of why we sometimes give the college coaches too much credit for player development. Butler's hard work and dedication at the NBA level have propelled him to an All-Star level. His college coaches probably had a small hand in his long term development, but so did his high school coaches. The NBA is a different monster. All the time in the world to focus on basketball. Playing against pros every day.

We always say guys are always playing against pros here--and to an extent--they are. But, literally every single teammate on the Bulls IS a pro, an experienced one at that--not one waiting to be drafted.

Jordan never had more than 40 in a half? I know that's a lot, but didn't he have a few games over 60?

This is silly.

People don't exaggerate Jordan that much because they don't have to.
Yes they do . Jordan would have had a George Gervin type career without Pippen and Phil Jackson. Heck , the year he set out to play baseball ( or was suspended for gambling on basketball as some suggest ) didn't the Bulls lose something like 3 more games than the year before with Jordan?

We can argue supporting cast all day. But no one says he never missed a shot or lost a game. I'm assuming you're on the LeBron=GOAT side of things--and at some point, 2 titles isn't GOAT--regardless of how you feel about Jordan.

CLEARLY the poster was exaggerating about the " never missed a shot of lost a game " comment but I understand where he is coming from . Don't assume. I think it's still too early to compare Lebrons accomplishments to Jordan's ENTIRE career . I don't even know how many championships Jordan had when he was Lebrons age . Look , l realize most people would pick Jordan as the best ever . He probably is . But I happen to think arguments can be made for others . I think Abdul Jabbar should be in the conversation because of his scoring dominance and number of championships , on more than one team for more than one coach . Wilt Chamberlain because of his INSANE statistics. If you're talking in terms of championships , Bill Russell had more than anybody . Like I said, Jordan is " probably " the best ever . I just hate when people act like there is no room for discussion on the matter .

Too bad DRose is toast or thats your best backcourt in the NBA(sorry steph and klay)

And what championships team and or all time great player didnt have a supporting cast? Take away, Thompson and Green from steph, take away mchale and parish from bird,Kareem and Worthy from Magic.Drekler from Olauwaon. Stupid...

Oh goodness gracious. I'm sorry, but any statement trying to equate Jordan to Gervin is absurdly stupid.

The differences between those two are too great to fully detail, but you can start with the fact that Gervin was notorious for not playing defense, whereas Jordan at his apex was the best defensive player in the entire world (while simultaneously also being the best offensive player) and for his career was undoubtedly one of the greatest defenders in the history of the game. And there's also the little issue of Gervin having a penchant for shrinking in the playoffs, precisely when Jordan always turned into a bloodthirsty killer.

While I agree that the Jordan mythologizing tends to sometimes go overboard, those Jordan fans are not nearly as far off the wall as an ignorant statement trying to equate Jordan to Gervin. You should be embarrassed to have said it.

Lebron has had two Pippens for his 2 titles so far, and has two more Pippen type players in Cleveland where he will win more titles. Lebron is nothing without two other great NBA players on his roster (based on that one poster's argument about Jordan)...so the supporting cast argument works for/against every great player in the history of the sport IMO.

Who cares if they only lost 3 more games? Did they win the title? We know what happened when he came back.

One way that Michael Jordan is like Hitler - comparing a person to either has the ability to completely derail a thread.

See what I did there?

As someone else said earlier, that's a stupid argument. No one had won an NBA title without great teammates.

Jordan. Better numbers, more titles. Developed into a great defender and outside shooter.. what did Pippen do without MJ?

Stop the nonsense but we've seen several elite basketball players in the last 20 years. Can't wait for the next mega star.

While I agree with the overall point of this post, the only slight correction I might add is that that Jordan did not "develop into" a great defender, instead he was ALWAYS a great defender. From his first year in the league onward. Dude was the league defensive MVP by only his fourth year (87-88) and very easily could've won it MANY other years.

I think there's a tendency for some to assume that if a player is leading the league in scoring he must be deficient on the other end. While I'll admit that's often true, it was NOT the case with Jordan. During the years when Jordan was the league's best scorer he was ALSO an absolute monster on the defensive end as well.
