OT: I see where Flores whining

7 game losing streak.. barely over. 500 with bottom 5 easiest schedule both years..

Nfl coach by 24 without coaching up thru the ranks... head coach by 36 ...

But 14 years experience now..

..both sides of this are FOS. hes not some coaching savant. Hes also over qualified for this job. He's also not oppressed and hasn't been held back because of his race. Sign me up for it if it means the career path he's had.

Honestly it's amazing he got a job. Whether you think he's a brave whistleblower or just a litigious, race baiting attention seeker, both make you toxic to be given another career opportunity.
100%. Hes more than qualified to be a HC again, and a seemingly good one at that. But what he did alienated teams that woulda given him a real shot, and his hire woulda alienated half the fans of the team who hired him.

Or, and the facts support it, the NFL has already issued an apology about it, that his owner tried to pay him to tank and then fired him when he wouldn't, and he was only given a job interview to satisfy the minority candidate rule after another coach was already given the job. I'm not calling him a brave whistleblower, but it happened to him and he called people on it. He'll get another HC job sooner than later.

I don’t know the details about the situation, and if those you’ve listed are true, there is a legit beef with their botching the process.

What I don’t understand is the race argument…the coach who was hired is biracial, right? If that’s the case, does he not qualify as a minority hire?

From a legal standpoint, I really don’t know the law and/or rule for the NFL (if they are different).

The Miami organization is such a wreck it’s quite obvious they have no idea what they’re doing. Look at how they handled Tua this year it’s absolutely ridiculous and I wasn’t at all surprised to see a bunch of buffoons in charge over there. Flores is going to a legitimate organization now as much as I hate the Steelers

if i do not do what my employer says to do, i will be selected to seek employment elsewhere.

do not act like the fish are the only team that ever tried to tank for a draft pick.

He's the reason the Texans hired Lovie Smith.
They fired their black head coach.
And they were definitely wanting to replace him with Josh McCown, backup white quarterback with no coaching experience at all.
What kind of racist bs is that.
I remember the argument was the nfl couldn't hire black coaches because the players had longer careers and didn't have the extra years of coaching experience.
Now that a supply of coordinators has built up, they're firing semi successful coaches and going to hire players before they're even retired?
I've seen people argue Wesley Woodyard had to work his way to coach linebackers at Kentucky.
The NFL was changing the trend to whatever kept the coaches white.
It took Flores suing to snap people awake.

This story is complicated and hard to decide what is fair vs. unfair.

1. Back to back .500 seasons but not making playoffs isn't terrible but it's not incredible....especially when you consider the Pats were awful 2 year ago and Jets have never been good. So he's had a bad schedule/division in his pocket for those 2 years.
2. As far as race goes...the GM is black person as well. So is it racist when it's black person making the ultimate call?
3. Apparently the GM drafted Tua and Flores wanted Hebert, who appears to be way more potential than Tua. Flores apparently struggles in his relationship with Tua and GM wants a coach to develop him
4. Who knows if the tanking allegations are true......even if they are true....as a coach sure it should get under your skin. On the other hand teams tank all the time in MLB, NBA and people don't blink an eye. If it happens more in NFL....would it be shocking as well?
5. Here is where the plot thickens...Apparently when Tom Brady was leaving New England...Miami owner arranged to have Brady on his yacht to discuss dolphins. Flores dind't show up to meeting, stating it was against tampering rules, etc...and Brady goes to Tampa turns that franchise into super bowl. So if I was owner and tried to set my team up to win big and the coach does this.....I'd be totally pissed as well.

So there is a ton to the story...how much is true is hard to tell. But I'd fall on the side this isn't as much about race as it is just life stuff that we all deal with.

He absolutely played the race card. I'm a dolphins fan and he was a solid coach but why start all that whining? He wanted a pervert for a quarterback and when he didn't get it he whines. Then he got fired and he whines. Then he played the race card. Pretty pathetic, but straight out of the whiner playbook.

If I were being used to simply satisfy the Rooney rule when the decision had already made, and if I were asked to make my players lose a game, I would probably be doing a bit of "whining" too. Not to mention winning 8 out of your last 9 games and still getting axed.

Not sure I'm allowed to post in this thread.... Mod will delete my post again!

I didn't follow that closely to know what the Dolphins would have to do to get Herbert but if they didn't have give anything major up, Flores was 100% correct with his choice. How is it seen as whining if he didn't want to play along with tanking games? I don't like the interviewing of candidates when a company/organization already knows who the hire is. However, that stuff happens all the time, I've been on the receiving end a couple of times myself, that particular one isn't really about race, even though the NFL has the rule.

Who is the pervert for a quarterback Flores wanted?

The Texans hired Smith because they have a dysfunctional front office. Remember them trading Hopkins for a sack of magic beans and cutting JJ Watt? If they simply were trying to hire a minority candidate then why not go after one of the hot up and coming coordinators like Bienemy or Lefftwich. Heck, Flores would have been a better choice. Instead they trot out a guy who has an absolute proven track record of failing as a head coach for the last decade. The Texans poor decision making has nothing to do with the Flores situation. It's like saying the Brown's have sucked at having a QB because of Michael Vick. Sometimes you just have to own incompetence, and the Texans are chock full of it.

The surest way to insure you never get fired? Turn the company into OSHA, valid complaint or not.

The guy landed an NFL head coaching gig. Tell me again how he was discriminated against? I have a killer job, but was passed over for lesser positions before landing the job. It happens.

NFL teams have to interview a certain amount of minority candidates for each position. He basically said he was brought into multiple interviews to meet that quota.

Some of you need to stop caping for these owners.

The owners did what was required of them. If he was brought in, in his mind to meet a quota? So be it. All I know is he has cashed NFL head coach checks. Maybe he should have been more picky about accepting those jobs?

I will say it again, no one gets every job they apply for and you sure don't hit a level of rapport with every interview to get that job. If anyone gets every job they applied for they are not trying to stretch their career.

^ Yeah, that's what Affirmative Action is. When you require a specific race be interviewed even though the company knows the person they want to hire, you're going to get a token interview to check off the box. Companies do this all the time in new hires of minorities even if they're not as qualified, in order to achieve a quota. I thought this was common sense.

The average NFL tenure is three years. THREE! No one bats an eye when a white coach is canned. Marty Schottenheimer, a HOFer, was fired after a 14-2 season. John Fox, a guy who went to two Super Bowls, went 46-18 in four seasons at Denver including a Super Bowl trip. He got pushed out.

There's no patience in football and for a league who gives chance after chance to players who commit crimes and get in trouble, playing the race card is ridiculous in this scenario. Just as ridiculous as thinking existing players would agree to tank so a team could get a higher draft pick.

It boils down to Flores' relationship with his GM (who is of the same race). They did not like each other. It's as simple as that.
