Resigns as Miami co-DC after being bypassed for DC job. Miami hires Tulane's DC, never interviewed Strong, the one time HoF candidate. Fact is the 62 year old Strong has now lasted exactly one year at his last three coaching stops. Guess Strong has learned that without Clint Hurtt's street agents and deep pockets, college coaching can be a difficult gig.

Read his health had really deteriorated quick. Think Saban hired him as an analysis

Imma let Charlie Strong live while I do the same.

Classic case of should have stayed put. He was a great get for UL. Probably wouldn't have maintained a Sugar Bowl pace in the ACC, but he probably would have held steady around 8-9 wins.

Not a knock on him, nor is it totally his fault that Texas didn't work out as athletic directors are the ones offering the money and doing the hiring.

He was a boomer aged DC in an era that is quickly passing that demographic of coach up. He hit a lick with Teddy B and Devante Parker...two first round picks...in a mid-major conference.

I thought USF would have worked out better, not sure what the story is there. Generally speaking, it's a relatively young program, coaches use it to springboard to another gig so it never is really able to stabilize. Also, I think it's probably hard to recruit given the fact that not only are they competing with all the other Florida schools big and small, but everyone else in the country as well. One would think, well Florida has all the talent in the world even what's left over from the bigger schools should suffice, but then you figure well once the big boys have their share USF has still got to compete with Kentucky, ole miss, Ga-tech, UNC, UL, South Carolina, etc...

In any case, Charlie was a great coordinator for Urban Meyer and will probably be solid for Saban.

Far as I know Saban has not hired him, he quit Miami just 2 days ago.

As I said, take away Hurtt's Fla street agents and Strong loses his punch.

He isn't the coordinator, off field analysis. Kevin Steele is the DC.
