Ole Miss Slapping Hapless Bama

It would be nice if implement the same defensive strategy used by Ole Miss in our game against Bama. So often we will use a man defense against our opponent even when game video clearly shows that zone defenses have given the team the most trouble. When our opponents light us up, we are quick to claim that all teams play their best game of the season against us. Maybe it is because our choice of defense is the enabler.

Bama clearly struggled against the 1-3-1 tonight. Will we even attempt to play some zone or will we continue with man defense while complaining about how poorly some of our guys play defense? Maybe it isn't as much with the players as it is with the choice of defense.

Alabama was winning this game at the half, although not surprised Ole Miss rallied in their new gym's home opener.

I think UK will win pretty easily on Saturday and think some are worrying too much about Alabama.

The fact that Bama was up at the half was more about Ole Miss inability to score. Offensively, Bama looked about as bad as we did against LSU. It is about time that we start playing a defense that our players are capable of playing instead of a defense that we would like to play. What is the point of continuing to expect out bigs to defend the post individually when they continuously prove to us that they can't?

Despite Bama's record they aren't very good . Ole miss is a pretty good team on the other hand . That is what is maddening about this team. WE destroy a good Ole miss team then get slammed by an LSU team not as good ( though more talented ) then Ole Miss.
It is all about match-up for us, a team with a couple of 6'8" horses that can finish at the rim is going to give us problems, if thy have a couple of quick 6'3' guards we are toast

Saturday's game in Alabama will probably half empty with the Bama vs Clemson Monday Night in Arizona and Bama travels really well for there Football team. I have watched Bama play a few games when they had Ingram at Guard and he scored double digits until his season-ending Injury. Bama plays 3 guard lineup with Obasohan 6'1, Coleman 5'10, and Edwards 6'4 and Forwards Kessens 6'9, Norris 6'7, and Taylor and Hale subs. Bama doesn't have much depth off the bench and not much of a frontline. IF Kentucky can come in and play well to start the game hitting the outside shots and making the plays inside to Lee, Poy, and Skal then I believe we can come out with a convincing win Saturday. Plus since Bama played late tonight away at Ole Miss hopefully this gives the advantage to UK Saturday at Bama. This would be a huge win for the Wildcats after the bad game on Tuesday Night vs LSU. This would give UK 1-1 on this 2 game trip come home to play Miss State and back on the road for 2 morevs. Auburn & Arkansas which are 2 more teams at mid to bottom of the SEC. If we can at home vs. Miss. State and go on the road and win those 2 and come home for 2 vs. Vandy & Mizz. we could easily be 17-3 and 7-1 SEC heading into the big showdown at Kansas. That would be nice to be on a 6 game win streak heading to Lawrence to play Kansas.

I've seen Bama a couple of times, I think they are a good match-up for us. if we don't dig ourselves a hole early we should be o.k.

But how many times have all of us seen the same thing when it comes to road games? The team we play is mediocre at best but plays lights out against us? Cats better come ready to play Saturday. Bama is not a good team but does have some big, strong players that will eat us alive if we're not on our game.

The fact that we even have to have people posting things like "if we do this or that we win" when we are talking about an extremely bad Alabama team is bad. But that's how bad our guys play on the road and I can't figure out why. We have better freshmen and better vets than Duke* but they don't have issues playing on the road like we do. They beat a very good Wake team a couple nights ago on the road. Same Wake team that won in Baton Rouge.
I still think this team is very good but just like most teams in the Cal era they struggle badly on the road so when Cal says "it's on me" he's correct.

I think the LSU is not good commentary needs to pause until we have seen several games with their full lineup.

They kicked our tails without Simmons or Hornsby going off.

I'm not sure JJ can screw this up too much until tourney time, then of course he will.

But LSU didn't play lights out, they made a ton of mistakes, they tried to let UK back in it but we didn't want it. We never tried to play lockdown D and most of our guys were in a fog on offense. We had guys trying to go 1 on 3 because 3 of our guys had their heads in the clouds. The LSU players were able to get where they wanted to go with ease.
Heck, Ben Simmons played one of his least effective games and they won by 18. It was just very odd to me how inept our guys played. Night and day when compared to the Ole Miss and Louisville games.
The only good news there is we get LSU in Rupp and possibly in the SECT so we will be able to get a little payback to ease the sting. We shouldn't have lost that game let alone lose by 18.

Sorry Jeff, I'll take Jefferson and Plumlee over Alex, Lee, and Skal at this point.

Other than Tyler I'm not sure what veterans are better than Jones and Allen?

Isn't Jefferson out or is he back?
I've never been impressed with Plumlee or Jefferson but K is getting Jefferson to play up to his potential. Alex is bigger, stronger and when he's on (I know, I know, it's rare) Jefferson couldn't hold his jock. I'll also take Ulis over GA and a healthy Dom could end up being a wildcard.
Either way, the disparity shouldn't be what it is, the two rosters are close enough. Our problem is mental. These guys get rattled on the road for some reason.

I would take a one point victory and be happy with it. I have no confidence for this team on the road. Alabama will be ready. Will our Cats be? That is the question

It is maddening. Hopefully the team we saw against Ole Miss, UL, and Duke shows up Saturday. This is definitely a winnable road game, and it seems like this team is going to need every road win it can come up with to get a decent seed for the NCAA. Barring a complete collapse we're on track to easily get in, but I'd like to get at least a 3 seed, and a 2 is still doable. Even a 1 if we win out, but I'm not expecting that. We're definitely going to lose at least one more, at KU. And I suspect several more in the SEC. At A&M surely looms as a really tough game. Vandy to, and maybe SC who after all is still undefeated.

Teams play lights out against us because of our insistence on playing man-to-man defense even if the opponent turns it into a layup drill. Bama struggled against Ole Miss' zone defense. Will we be smart enough to use a zone or will we once again play a man defense while complaining that all teams play lights out against us? Maybe teams play lights out against us because of our choice of defense which is always man.

This current team does not do well against strong, bulky frontlines. We need to get up early, and keep the crowd out of it.

it doesnt matter who is beating who..we always get everyones A game when we play them
