It wasn't too long ago when people were calling for Schlarman to get canned. Now he looks like a pretty good coach. We played with 4 RS SO.

He's the weakest link in the coaching staff imo. Quarterbacks, Runningbacks and Receivers have all gotten leaps and bounds better since Stoops and his staff have been here.

The O-Line has gotten worse.

Lets not forget Mike Summers was nominated for the Broyles award during Joker's last season here.

I'm really torn on this one. I like Schlarman and think he's a good dude but I'm not sure how good of a coach he is. I know he inherited a mess but his lines have constantly been dominated since he's been here and have multiple penalties every game. I know he hasn't had the best talent to work with but neither did Mike Summers and his lines looked better to me. Look what Mike has done with UF's OL. Pretty impressive.

You guys can't be complaining about the OL play against Mizzou, surely? The OL played a heck of a game against Mizzou, plenty of time for Towles to find open receivers, Cole Mosier played a heck of a game at LT, and like the OP stated we started 4 RS Sophs, I think our young players on the OL performed well on Saturday, and hopefully they keep improving.

Ummm, how many 4 and 5 star OL does UF have?

Per ESPN they have 10 OL that are 4 or 5* in the last 4 recruiting classes. His OL should be impressive.

That's true but they only had one starter back this year. OL takes a long time to gel but they thoroughly dominated our DL in that game as we got next to no pressure. In regards to Summers time here, I think his lines looked better than Schlarman's have. Just my opinion.

Better experienced players will make you a better coach. The problem most of the time with UK is talent and depth. We are getting there. The OL did a very good job last week against a solid Mizzou front 7.

when John come here from Troy university, he had FOUR o-lineman that could bench 400 pounds! at Troy when he left he had SIX! AT TROY! we are an SEC team and had o-linemen that couldnt bench their weight! i posted this just to give you an insight on what he come into

I am reserving judgement on Scharlman myself. We started 4 player with one year of experience and it isn't like these 4 guys were every down players last year, nowhere near that I am sure(but who is an every down player, they all need rest) My point is this, it is a matter of inexperience. Our players are bigger, stronger and faster because of EK's High Performance training and they will get better with experience. I think they did a terrific job against Missouri and will keep getting better. On the other hand I do think that Coach Scharlman has better talent that Coach Summers had most of the time he was here, as I keep saying it all comes back to experience. I for one was very sad when Mike Summers left because he is a great coach, but give coach Scharlman a chance please.

I question if you actually watched one snap of the Florida game

we got pressure all game long, only problem was Grier escaped and got upfield for positive yardage almost everytime. oh worshipful Summer's O line couldnt get one inch of a push on our D line on actual called designed run plays.

Im still undecided. The OL play is much better. But I also remember reports that Dawson switched to a zone blocking scheme. So it may be as much to do with scheme as it is positional coaching.

Either way, Im happy with the progress. It speaks volumes we ran out of the clock vs Mizzou, even though everyone knew we were running it every down.

Yes I watched the whole game and yes we pressured Grier a couple of times and made him scramble but we only ended up with two sacks. Don't get all defensive, I just think Summers is a better OL coach. That's all.

I will hold judgement off on OL coaching until we actually have Tackles. We are playing guards at tackle and that is really hard to do.

We pressured Grier all game long...we put as much pressure on him as they did Towles...he escaped, Towles didn't.

UK had poor to mediocre OLs under Summers and have had poor to mediocre OLs under Schlarman. But if you can't appreciate what Schlarman's makeshift OL did in the 2d half vs Missouri there's not much hope for you.

Agreed. It's hard to truly rate a OL coach when you are starting many youth linemen with poor depth. It's improving, but still not there yet.

I will say that the OC has a lot to do with this as well. The first 3 games of the yr we didn't adjust to alleviate the defensive pressure. Missou we did.......slanted coverage, QB roll outs, quicker WR routes, releasing the TE, etc. And even without our starting LT or LG we did decently against a really good defensive front.

Didn't see the whole game, but it appears our underrated front 7 did a better job pressuring Grier all game long than UT's much more highly praised talked about front 7

Let's be honest about the OL play

1. UF game...that group was awful. Moreso than even Towles IMO. UT ran all over them last week and their OL isn't one of the best in SEC.
2. The Mizzou game was a much better performance and I like that Dawson adjusted to leaving in a back to chip on DE to help our Mosier. I thought UK blocked their other DL pretty well but UK had no answer for Charles Harris from Mizzou...and Mosier was way overmatched.

We'll see how the year pans out for our OL...I think they are doing a decent job but nothing great to my eyes. At this point in 3 years to still have the loss of tackles on the roster and hoping that Leavitt will solve one side of the ball as a JUCO is still shaky work to me. I think Schlarman is OK but not as good as former OL coaches at UK in Summers, Heggins, Guy Morris, etc... So it's hard to feel that Schlarman is really that good if he's no better than past UK OL coaches.

OL takes the longest to develop and see rewards via recruiting...hard to get a really good idea of what Schlarman can and cant do.

Dobbs broke a couple long runs (2 longest runs UT has had against UF in a decade) but UT certainly did not run all over Florida. Their RBs combined for over 33 carries and 118 yards, ours RBs combined for 33 carries and 123 yards vs Florida.

I'm not completely sold on Schlarman either. OL is the weakest link on the team. We've allowed 12 sacks through 4 games, which is tied for 107th in the country. Granted, you can blame Towles for hanging on to the ball too long at times. But this is not good.
