On a neutral court, they would've run right through Kansas. After watching all the teams, I think the Sooners are the best team in the country. Congrats to KU, heck of a game, and be thankful that wasn't in Oklahoma.

You never know. Thought last year OU would run through KU without Ellis in Norman after losing by 5 in AFH. That game came down to the last second literally. Each game is different. Next time they play Hield and Woodard may struggle from 3.

That said I do agree. I think OU is the best team in the nation. The only thing they lack is a true post scorer.

You guys are funny. Home court advantage on a hyped game like this means everything. The place was going nuts, overtime after overtime, Oklahoma had it won numerous times. Kansas didn't impress me, Oklahoma is the team to beat this year after watching that.

Oklahoma is the best team. Love their guard play. Their bugs play d and rebound like crazy.

Oklahoma is the team to beat - and I can't imagine anyone coming close really to them or Kansas.

Meh I think you'd be surprised how little home court matters when playing a truly great, experienced team. OU is that. Woodard and Hield were shooting with ice in their veins. I kind of expect KU to come out in Norman ready to go like OU did tonight.

Buddy Hield plays with balls. I thought Seldon was really good this year but he was nowhere near on Hield's level. Kansas is a very deep and balanced tesm, but after watching them tonght, and watching how they lost to MSU, they have no alpha dog on that team. Especially when the game is tight and on the line.

It matters. I know you're excited about the win, as you should be. But as someone thats a neutral observer, it was obvious that Oklahoma is a better team. Location of the game won it for KU.
I don't feel confident with UK going to Kansas, I'm expecting a loss. But if the game was in Lexington I'd guarantee a win.

After his performance tonight does Buddy Hield jump to the front of the NPOY race? He's the best player on one of the two best teams in America. Valentine has been great. So has Simmons. Hield is hitting 90% of his FT, 50% of his 3's, gets 5 boards a game, and his hitting 50% of his shots. In his last 5 games he's averaging 30.4 points a game.

If the season ended tonight, I say yes.

Valentine has missed time and Simmons is on a mediocre team. Hield has the numbers and team success backing him.

You would guarantee a win in rupp huh?

I'll be "that guy". Tough Defense was hard to find last night. Offense doesn't win championships.

I will agree with you. Both are very dangerous teams, but both also played some average D. Things will be different for both of them when they play against teams with strong defense and considering their conference, that isn't likely to happen until the sweet sixteen at the earliest.

I was pretty impressed with both teams and don't have a very good feeling about UK's chances at KU later this month. Let's be honest, some of you are saying you weren't impressed with KU and I was pulling hard for them to lose but they looked pretty dang tough to me. They also shoot lights out and get up and down the court pretty well. Both, as pointed out, could definitely improve on the defensive end but I saw some decent play there at critical times with some big time blocks inside. Gotta give credit where it's due and both of them look better than where we are at them moment. I think we have more room for improvement and maybe a higher ceiling, just hope we realize it by March. Between the two last night, though, I go along with most of the crowd and say Oklahoma was the better team and best in the nation as of right now. Hopefully, we will be there come March.

That was one of the better games I've seen in a while, great matchup. Both teams are the real deal. Was very impressed with OU.

I don't know what game you were watching ..... Mason was inside Buddy's jersey and had him locked down - but that guy is just unreal and can make shots from anywhere and under extreme pressure. I also thought the defense around the rim was pretty damn good with no uncontested shots (save for the dunks which there weren't many)

This was an epic game for sure and will pay dividends for both teams down the road. I think overall - KU has a much more balanced team and a much deeper bench. Diallo and Bragg are going to change a lot in the next few weeks and will be contributors. OU has the best player in the nation - forget about it. But there team only really goes 7 deep and the other players can disappear at times.

For an early season game - this was just really fun to watch.

No I agree about OU. I said they were the best team in the nation in another post and I agree with it. That said they could lose a couple games unexpected in Big 12 play because they live and die by the 3.

Home crowd does have an effect but I believe your overestimating the impact of that crowd on a great team full of experienced players who have played in AFH 3 times previously. It just doesn't have the same impact. I think OU is better because they have shot makers but they aren't considerably better than KU like you suggest. Don't know how many times KU lost or barely beat a team at home and I thought KU was going to get their doors blown off on a neutral court or on the road and instead KU went in and either won or lost a just as competitive game as the one in AFH. Last year games with OU was a prime example, especially considering KU was without Ellis.

KU could go into Norman and win if Hield and Woodard go out and take 24 3s but make 8 combined instead of 14 of them. OU could blow the doors off KU if KU struggles and OU gets great shooting from Spangler and Cousins. Then if they met on a neutral court the loser of the game in Norman could end up dominating the other. You never know how a game is going to go and to claim you know how is going to go based off of the previous game is just being ignorant.

Also about the defenses. They did hold each other to 10 points below each others season average in regulation. Both can definitely improve defensively but both are solid defenses with exceptional offenses.

Best game I have watched in a very long time. We are going to have to improve alot to beat either one of them. I actually thought Oklahoma got a very fair whistle last night away from home so I do not think the home court advantage was as great as normal. Still a advantage with the crowd but I did not think the zebras played a major role for KU.

If BOTH teams score over 100 points NO ONE was "locked down"...

Lame post. I hate hyperbole like this- you can't just say you think Oklahoma is the better team. No, you have to lay it on thick with they would've run right through Kansas. Those are the top 2 teams in the country right now and they just about played to a draw.

I disagree. I thought Kansas locked Oklahoma up from the end of regulation on. Their offense was basically weaves and 3s...but Hield and Woodard just didn't miss. Sometimes there is nothing the D can do about it- see last night and UK-Duke '92 as examples.

UNC plays no defense whatsoever. Both teams would punish them off the bounce.

While I tend to agree, both teams last night played very little defense. I realize it was 3OT's but defense wasn't the focal point in any event...

Agree to disagree on this one. Neither team was getting to the rim easily- at least from the end of regulation on. They were just hitting the shots- combined 27-55 from three. Sometimes the D can't do anything about it. Those shots Hield and Woodard were hitting were ridiculous.

For reference, KenPom adjD:

Oklahoma- 6
Kansas- 7
North Carolina- 62

See, you do agree with me. At least to the end of regulation....;)

No one was "lockdown" but 77-77 end of regulation between 2 exceptional offensive teams that play at a high pace isn't too terrible. 32-30 between 3 OTs isn't too bad either.

Neither has defense as their biggest strength but neither is terrible defensively either. As college basketball fans we've had to watch 62-60 games so much the last 10-15 years that seeing 2 great offensive teams score 80+ makes it seem like both teams are terrible defensively.

Like you say; 77-77 is no juggernaut of a high scoring game by any standards in regulation. What I am saying is neither team decided to defend much at all, even when the other team showed they could keep up on the scoring end of things. While it was a very good game to watch I didn't see either team show anything that puts them head and shoulders above a few other teams that are in the mix.(I do not include unc as I don't think they are in the mix.) Again not knocking your team but they are far from a juggernaut and not to be feared as the other team is not to be feared either. OT is OT the score gets higher but to hear some tell it on this site KU is not touchable now. All I can say is; HA. Be Good

Tried to tell y'all, but nobody listened.

Kansas won that game because of depth. Oklahoma's starting five is really good but their bench is worthless

Was kind of surprised Self didn't use his bench even more in the OTs, actually. The Sooners were gassed. Kansas guys were fresher but still- he pretty much stuck with the same 5.

I think Oklahoma's starting five is the best in the country, but over the length of an entire season I don't buy them as the best team in the country. Getting nothing from your bench is going to hurt them down the line, you can't just count of five players to carry nearly the entire load all season long. Those guys are going to break down eventually, and if one has a bad game it's going to take someone having a special game to give you a chance to win, like how Cousins sucked and Hield went bonkers last night.

Both teams are very good and will be hard to beat on a neutral court. Both play really good defense. Kansas is the best team right now IMO and has the ability to get a lot better. Oklahoma is awesome but they have less of a margin for error. They are dependent on the 3 ball going in, also they don't have any depth. It is pretty clear that those were the 2 best team going at it last night but I would rather be Kansas going forward.

While I suspect they will take us in Lawrence, I still have a hard time believing any team that starts Hunter Mickleson is all that and a ball bat!
