OK It's Been 3 Seasons

I would say soon ... I seriously doubt Stoops is happy with the job the defense has been doing. I would say Stoops is on his ass constantly behind closed doors.

I get your point, however you can't fire DC every 3 years or so and expect to have a great defense. It takes several years more for the defense to be able to catch up to the offense.

Please remember that it is very hard for a program like ours to lose players like Bud and 'Z' and expect their side of the ball to be immediately better.

it looked like stoops was doing some coaching in between series and the head coach shouldn't have to do that. dj certainly needs to step up.

All the D C of the last 10 years had the same problem at UK. Everyone wants to fire them thinking a new DC can make football players faster, quicker, and have better reaction time. People, it takes better players and why it takes years for the defense to get better. No quick fix on defense.

10 years? try forever

Yep, Stoops still needs time to recruit us out of our defensive hole. We still don't have SEC linebackers out there with any experience and no DE presence. We are undertalented on defense in the SEC. No question about it. We are still playing with Quinn and Tiller. Come on, that should tell you what you need to know.

College players only get 4 year of eligibility though...so this "takes 5-10 years" is folly.
- Why is Elam in his 2nd year still standing straight up and isn't being taught to explode thru the hole and penetrate into backfield? He'll be gone in 2 more years.
- We quote Tiller/Quinn are still playing CB...what does that tell you about Hytche/Randolph/, etc.. that can't knock them out and Westry did?
- All the hype about Forrest being the man...at best he is a pass coverage LBer...certainly not every down kid...again Hendrix already flames out and Frios appears to not be close
- Lewis looks decent but the rest of the DL are a grease fire. Reggie Meant, CJ Johnson, Hugengtin, etc..look just like Joker Phillips DL of old.

Can't we state is an eye opening problem that we're still going to finish in the 80/90's at best in defensive stats in 3rd year...and all signs point to Stoops being loyal to DJ Elliott no matter what? I think this has no good ending on this side of the ball for UK.

Cj Johnson didn't even play and Meant made several plays. Stop acting like you know what you're talking about. A few years ago Kentucky got spanked by UL in the opener and went on to beat UGA and Clemson in the music city bowl. This team will be fine. First game.

Those saying Bud and Z being gone is the problem are crazy. UK's D stunk with them on the team. The problem is very simple. KY simply does not have another experience, depth, and talented "horses" in the front 7 to constantly play legit big level SEC defense. You can't have a few good players mixed in with average ones. That gets fixed with recruiting and I am afraid it will take another 2-4 years to ever get to that point at a program like KY who has not played great defense since the 70's.

Stoops and Elliot are joined at the hip. This is the Stoops defense, the same one he and Elliot ran successfully at FSU arguably with better players.

There is nothing wrong with the scheme IMO and I can't point to anything with the defensive play calling that I would criticize - actually I think we looked very crative on our blitzes tonight and had some successful plays for losses or no gains from the pressure so created. But we seem to not have answered for the read option and the athletic QB. We were totally fooled on several plays with the QB keeper. That would seem to be a matter of recognition and proper reading of keys. I know one time the true freshmen DE Allen bit on the dive and the QB kept the ball for a big gainer.

Tennessee's defense with all those 5 star linemen and 4/5 star secondary gave up just as many points to Bowling Green.

I don't see the need for any staff changes at this point. It's the first game so I know things will get better.

Johnson definitely didn't play tonight, and I don't think Tiller did either. I don't recall seeing him out there at least.

There is nothing to gain from making a change at DC right now. We all knew the D would struggle. It didn't look good but it looked about what we thought going into the season. We just have to out score people. That's all there is to it. The defensive struggles are made worse when our O keeps 3 and outing. We have to cut Eliot some slack because he doesn't have what he needs right now to be good on defense. Also the offense keeps hanging the defense out to dry.

wow we have some stupid fans!! We are playing a ton of freshman and sophomores, and the they didn't fold until the offense went multiple 3 and outs in the second half, defense was GASED because they were on the field 3 TIMES in 9 minutes.... If the offense would have RAN THE BALL while up 17 in the second half that game wouldn't have last almost 4 hours and the cats would have won by 17 to 20.....You people are smoking crack

Easy because Elam is not the best we can recruit. Teams waste time trying to develop players in the 5 year range but if those players are not as expected, you must replace with a better player. next year UK may recruit a kid that becomes what everyone wants Elam to become but as I said, that takes time and with defense, 5 years is not enough time IMHO.

so we had 4 starters out for this game and played 3 true freshmen a ton of snaps? i dont see how we didn't look like a well oiled machine lol. the only thing that bothers me with knowing who didn't play is that we still didn't get a push on the d-line. i understand that we want our guys to control the line with their hands and explode through but that isn't working to this point. we need to let melvin and matt just go balls to the wall forward and wreak havoc at least half the time instead of trying to control the line, especially on first down.

No pass rush. QB looked like he was playing his first game at times. Bad start to the season after the hype we heard.

You say "arguably," but I sincerely hope you meant "admittedly." The only argument is whether FSU had better players on their 3rd/scout teams than we are starting.

That is a petty post with the name calling. Your points are valid though. We passed way too much but our oline was not blowing them off the ball, someone posted a stat that out side of the couple of big runs we averaged 1.3 yds on the ground.

And no matter how tired we get should we ever give up 247 on the ground versus a Sun Belt team?

Umm, Elam played well tonight. He commanded two blockers and didn't allow for the OL to push. He is also the only DL that consistently gets his hands up when he knows he won't be able to hit the QB.

His job isn't to explode through the hole and blow up the play in the backfield every snap. I mean, that's obviously ideal if you're creating a guy in Madden, but what should be expected is what he did; command half of the OL to make sure he doesn't get back there and then hold his ground so the other DL and LB can fill in the holes around him. He wasn't perfect by any means, but calling him out after this game is BS

The offense didn't help the defense tonight and Towles didn't make the plays that he should but the defense had problems when Laffeyette switched quarterbacks. A defense prepares for the opponents scheme and when they brought in the other QB, the scheme changed.

Also, Johnson was suspended, Tiller didn't play, and Hytchye transferred out of the program.

Great analysis!!!

We have an SEC linebacker in Hatcher, he committed to USC before us, but he is in trouble. Is it time for us to admit that we have punks just like other teams, or are we going to continue wearing blue sunglasses and say we do it different? When our punks get back, we can compete.

Nonsense, you can say your a bug a football fan as you want, but u still have a basketball recruiting mentality. You can't just turn people over and expect another class right in. You have to have years in where replacements are also seniors and juniors and of equal quality

Every single team in the country has kids that violate team rules. I don't think anyone has denied that except the strawman you just built. That being said, violating team rules is better than domestic abuse, drug dealing, and robbing which is a type of "punk" Stoops doesn't keep around.

Missed KTime's other hot take that Nico Firios isn't ready. He is a RS Freshman. Stoops' first full class of recruits are either sophomores or RS freshmen. Why don't we wait a few more years

I have built no strawman. In fact, I don't really know what that means. But i do read this site and know that the majority criticizes any team that has a kid in trouble, and blindly supports our kids. Hatcher hurt the team tonight and I hope his coaches and teammates are pissed because of it. I know I am. A punk is a punk, whether he plays for UL, Tennessee or us.

Why don't you say that about Meadows and Johnson, they were suspended for breaking team rules like Hatcher. Are they thugs too? You don't know what rules they broke so stfu. I don't usually get this way but you are over the top.

Everyone should be pissed at them too. I just know Hatcher could have made a difference tonight. I will not STFU. Get over yourself.

Nope I won't, not while fans like you keep calling our players thugs when they don't deserve it. Heck ul fans don't even do that.
