Officials should confer on controversial calls

Football officials pick up flags all the time after talking to other referees. Basketball should do more of the same. Blow the whistle, stop play but don't call anything. Meet with the other officials and decide what to call if anything. Similar to flagrant calls. Not that hard......

Yep, but they are more anonymous and don't seek attention like many cbb refs.

It looked like to me they was trying to talk him out of it, but he wasn't going to let them change the call.
Yeah, the one ref had his hand on his shoulder and adams said it was an automatic T. But it did look like at least that one ref was questioning it.

Food for thought.
How many college basketball officials can you name?
Several I'm thinking.
Now how many college football officials can you name?
Very few I'm thinking....
Interesting!!!!!!!

The officials did huddle up and talk about it but some moron put Pat Adams in charge and he will have none of it.

If that's actually what he said, he needs to find another job. No matter how much he wants to believe it, there's no rule requiring a technical foul to be assessed in that situation. It's discretionary, and he just couldn't help himself.

(Previously posted this on HOB.)

That was a discretion call, made at an extremely critical time. Issac was not mad, he was not showboating.

In order to make a call of discretion, a referee must (should) have, at the very least, knowledge, judgement, and integrity.

I really do sense that at least 2 of these were missing.

It was a judgement call as has been proven by the NCAA rulebook and discussions with other officials post game. Jeff Goodman said Pat Adam said "no comment" after the game.

Irony is T&AM player did the same thing (only worse) about 2 minutes earlier, but he didn't get a T. Refs need some level of public accountability. That might make them think a little more closely about some of their calls.

There is a video of the mid court meeting somewhere. It looked like the one ref realized how bad the call was, and called them all out to the court. It sure appeared that he asked Adams 'Are you sure?' or something like that, and Adams got super-pissed and screwed up his face and CLEARLY said ' I'M POSITIVE!'.

Adams was reaching for the ball when Hump threw it. Hump didn't look like he even knew Adams was around, but Adams blew up after that that. He called the T as he was looking back at Hump, as he was walking away to retrieve the ball.

They were discussing the Foul situation and who would shoot free throws. No discussion of them not calling a technical. He should blow the whistle, NOT call the T right away and discuss it. Once he called it he was not going back on his decision.

Not true. Adams clearly says that spiking the ball is unsportsman like and an automatic T. He wouldn't be explaining it unless one of the other officials questioned him.

Absolutely he was being challenged by one of his partners during that sequence. They were talking about the validity of the technical and Adams reiterated his take....wrongly of course.
