Looking over the roster at UK Athletics shows we have 2 Freshmen, 9 RS Sophmores and Regular Sophmores, 5 Jr's and 3 Seniors. Someone with knowledge would you please give us a pro and cons of these players. I think most are familiar with Cox, Horsey, Flax, and Wilson but after that there not much to find, other than profiles from recruitment. Most think Manning will start but Don't no anything about him. Thanks.

Based on the citrus bowl, we obviously have no experienced tackles. That is about all we know because Wolford went away from rotating 8-9 guys on the Oline and cross training them to play multiple positions, so we have a gaggle of Oline recruits with little or no real game experience.

Could be a real bummer for this team unless someone surprises us by transfer portal, off season improvement, or one of the newcomers gets SEC ready by September.

Not what I want to see.

1. I think you can pencil in starters as Manning - guard, Cox - center and Horsey - presumably guard.
2. Guards
- Jager Burton has a bright future and if anyone can displace Manning...it's him
- Quentin Wilson is a great versatile backup.....but not a frontline starter IMO
- John Young is a strong guard candidate as well
- Rueben Adams is the biggest guard and highly rated....but he's not moved up at all which is mystery.
- Grant Bingham....true road grater offensive guard type

3. Tackles
- Flax....I'd guage he's in battle for a starting spot. Huge kid but still a bit slow looking to me in bowl game.
- Goodwin.....most talented OL prospect....if he adjust to speed of college....he'll get a starting spot IMo.
- Wolbaugh.....he quickly rose up depth chart as a true Fr. I think he's going to battle for one starting spot
- Buford....thin kid when he got here 3 years ago but had really high potential. Has he developed enough strength yet....we'll find out.
- Joshua Jones.....tall prospect a few years ago....but he seemingly has been passed by others.

I have no idea where Paul Rodrizguez, Nicolas Hall, etc...line up as tackles or guards.

Barring a transfer portal kid at a tackle spot (which I'd argue we need very much) here is depth chart after spring:

LT - Flax, Wolbaugh
LG - Horsey, Q Willson
C - Cox, Q Wilson
RG - Manning, Burton
RT - Goodwin, Buford

Transfer watch...Josh Jones and Rueben Adams.

One of 7. He has visited UT, NC St, UV where his brother is at. Visiting LSU this weekend and Bama after that. Unless he schedules UK for a visit I don't see it happening
Just going by what his Dad told the reporter. Mayber his Dad is a liar. I don't know him.

I'll let you read it for yourself.

I read the article with what his dad said last month What did I say different? You said he has a top 7. He has or is visiting 5-6 of them. Any school that doesn't get a visit is gonna be left out

This article was from yesterday. Hoping we are included in the "at least two more" schools he intends to visit before he makes his decision.

We certainly need him.

Thanks, K-time, that's what I was looking for.

I’d expect one of Wohlbaugh, Buford, or Goodwin to win the LT job. They will scheme the run game early on like they did in the bowl game to help out whoever is at LT. Essentially we only ran gap scheme on left side runs just asking horsey to pin his guy inside.

If Flax can’t win the RT spot then I’d expect we go to the portal for a better run blocking RT.

Great discussion. I think Wohlbaugh will be this years Eli Cox, young kid who in his 2nd yr has worked hard in the weight room & seizes a starting spot.

Manning & Cox are starting somewhere in the interior 3, write that down now in ink.

Can't wait for 2 weeks from now, we will have had our 1st spring scrimmage reports. Will tell us a lot how tackle lineup is looking.

Agree on Wohbalaugh… he’s another Drake Jackson football smarts wise. He and his dad (nfl lineman) have been doing film study since his Freshman year of high school.

Regarding Wohlabaugh, these kinds of names are in my heritage; my grandmother was born a Butterbaugh. Can we please spell his name correctly? Thanks. Of course it's more important how he performs on the field.

C'mon man.
We struggle with Smith and Jones on this board.

You should see what spellchecker does to names like this.

If it's close enough to recognize who we talking about, just accept it and move on.

Blame modern technology. But at the end of the day, it will be okay. I’m sure your grandmother will forgive us.

I have not seen this reported and he was supposed to at LSU this weekend. Wish it was true though

Edit:. JRow just reported that he is visiting the 20th. @cathouse this changes things, hopefully they win him over
That makes two of us, and the rest of BBN. I really feel good about him coming here. His Dad said that choosing a team with an immediate need at tackle would be the major deciding factor for him..............that's got UK written all over it.

Just like Dare, he can come in here and start from day 1 at either tackle spot.

If Goodwin wins the LT role to start the season, we are in trouble there. He is an exceptional talent, but he is not ready to start against the best athletes in college football. I hope, for his sake, two other tackles step up and he can either be a swing tackle or the 4th with spot snaps until he improves his flexibility and builds up his speed to have confidence to go up against the SEC's best.

i agree with you...I'd love to see Flax, Buford, etc..beat him out and allow Goodwin to go thru growing pains (if any).

I just have a hunch, barring a portal transfer between now and then, Goodwin is going to be at worst one of the two starting tackles come September.

If we don't get Steen, start Goodwin at LT. Day 1, bite the bullet. 3 easy homegame opponents for him to learn on the job. For the Florida game week 2 game plan in lots of TE & back help to his side. Levis mobility will also be a huge assist.

Then come Oct I'm willing to bet he will start to roll & not need much help.

That is probably how it could pan out. We’ll protect him early and hope he grows into the job by mid year

Georgia has a pretty good tackle that just entered the portal as a grad. Don't know if he's played LT. Some starts. Injured early and often, impeding his competition for playing time. Condon is the name. I'd take both him and Steen.

If true, this feels like best scenario outside of portal activity.

1. I like Horsey back at his strength which is guard...so it feels like we could be really strong up the middle which sustains our run strength hopefully.
2. Buford is the key to whole thing....If he truly beats out Goodwin...then that tells me he's at least serviceable as I'd expect Goodwin on size alone to be decent tackle while he acclimates to college.
3. Why Wolford had no ability to rotate in at least 1 more OL is a headscratcher.....I hope Yenser will be fine but I'm glad we're done with Wolford's bullcrap. I hope the dude falls on his face and you know Saban will whack him at first notice..
3. I like keeping Wilson as a backup/depth guy...he's not a starting SEC OLine and glad we aren't going in that direction either.

I wonder if Joshua Jones isn't a kid getting lost on depth chart. He's at a tackle spot and has Buford, Goodwin and Wolbaugh all ahead of him apparently....not a great sign.

To me, one of the best bits of news out of the open practice/post-practice videos on youtube is regarding OT Flax. As hoped, he appears to be taking the opportunity in front of him seriously. He said his weight is down to about 330 from ~356 during the season, and he said his goal is to be closer to 315 by the season.

In addition, he said he has been meeting with now graduate assistant coach Drake Jackson one on one to better understand the playbook as well as work on his pass protection technique. He said his goal before the fall is to know the playbook for every position on the field so he can play to the best of his abilities.

Flax also specifically mentioned Buford as stepping up/coming along.

Wish Buford was a little taller but the guy must be making excellent progress. Everyone seems to have good things to say about him.

I"m telling you guys my stress level dopped three levels when I heard Drake was joining the staff. I liked the hire of Yenser already but thought Drake would really bring something to the unit as a coach and just a mentality stand point
