Offense from 10:00-4:00 mark

Officiating certainly didn't do us any favors, actually the most one sided I have seen in a game down the stretch in a long time. That being said not sure what we were doing on offense from about the 10:00 minute mark of the 2nd half to the 4:00 timeout. Seems almost every possession during that time resulted in rushing to get a shot off before the shot clock expired.

Briscoe was running the point much of this time while Ulis ran the baseline? Why? We played a solid game but this very unproductive stretch of 6 minutes ultimately cost us.

This. This is actually when we lost the game. We were getting defensive stops, but couldn't score for several minutes. I will give Kansas's defense some credit. They definitely confused us and played hard.

You hit it right on the head. Long gaps with out scoring will cost us in the tourney. If not hitting shots we got to drive and get fouled. Except if playing KU in Lawrence. Forget fouls.

KU switched their defense. We never saw anything like that I bet. Completely slowed down Ulis who was basically our offense in the first half.

Sometimes u have to just credit what the opponent did. Self was smart.

Briscoe only took 1 three and it was at the end of a clock in the first half. Poythress only took 2 three and hit one.

This was obviously to give Ulis a rest without taking him off the floor. In an every possession counts game like this, UK cannot afford to take him out of the game. He just means and does so much for this team.

He is less than a 20% shooter in his career, his misses were not due to injury

Hawkins was abysmal shooting. That is my only gripe of the night. That, and Murray getting lost on that huge 3 Seldon hit towards the end of regulation.

These guys need to learn to play D without fouling. It's gonna be essential going forward. This team isn't deep like last year. There is no platoon. You have to stay on the court.

Me too. Cal's been on him about shot selection, but in this game I had rather him have been more aggressive, even if it did mean one or two questionable jumpers. It wouldn't have been worse than Hawkins taking 3's after being out of commission for 2 weeks.

Ah well. I'm pleased with our grit and feel good about where we are headed.

That was a great defensive move by Kansas. I'm glad we faced it now. We will be ready for it next time we face it.

However, with Willis in foul trouble, Dom being rusty - I wondered offensively if bringing in Mulder for those shots would have been better. However, it may have been not worth the defensive liability he may have been.

Still, like our boys hustle and grit. Sometimes pain is a great learning lesson and motivator. We will be better after this game. Kansas will not.

Oh I know. I didn't say he missed because he's injured. But Cal had been on him telling him he can't play if he doesn't take those shots when he's open, which is why I said I guess he has to take them. I'm just saying that having not seen any game action for 2 weeks isn't going to improve his chances. Maybe Cal's usual rules on Dom shooting shouldn't have applied in this one.

Actually it was only two, Willis from the corner and dom's three that Willis got called on his BS over the back call against Ellis. Officiating was just terrible down the stretch in this game. Touch and bump fouls on Kansas end of the court and we got nothing on ours. We did miss three open shots in this stretch, the two threes and an elbow jumper by Poy. Briscoe took two drives hard to the hole but came up empty both times and received twice as much contact as what was being called fouls on the other end. Briscoe after doing great against Missouri and starting out good against Kansas once again faltered from the line. Think he missed 6 of his last 8

When we absolutely have to have a basket I want Ulis driving and Murray & Willis spotting up. I don't want anyone else shooting anything but a layup. No threes down the stretch in a big game by anyone else. Got to tighten up.

Willis fouled out but that doesn't mean Hawk needs to start jacking them up. Those were big misses at crucial points where we need our best players deciding the game. I really like to ride Murray down the stretch. At this point I am willing to win or lose with him.

When games are close, I really think Cal needs to post Willis and let him try and score on the block/get fouled. The guy is our best FT shooter (or tied with Ulis) and is shifty enough to get other bigs, especially Cs who aren't used to guarding anyone as athletic as Willis, to foul him. I know he's probably our best 3-pt shooter, but in tight situations he may have more value on the block than sitting out in the corner.

Every time they drove it was a foul, each time we drove it was a turn over. Horrible reffing job.

THIS ALL DAY LONG ! I think Murray shrunk a little bit on the BIG stage . Heck I'd rather see him take a contested shot than a kid that's been out for a month take an open look in that setting.

I would have rather had Mulder or even Mathews in the game at that time . I said it when they put Hawkins in and Cals admitted it was a mistake last night . What the hell was Cal thinking.

Bingo. Cal had no answer and it killed us.. We switched on all of their picks and they scored on too many mismatches. We were bad on defense.. Apparently not much communication out there.

Very true, but if I am an opposing coach I'd much rather have Willis trying to beat me from 3 than having Ulis and Murray definitely beating me from 3 and/or in the lane.
