I had honestly forgot he was on that team, then it hit me several minutes into the game lol. He seems to have grown into his frame, but I’d say playing in the MountainWest is his level.
He had 15 pts. 5/9 FG, 2/3 3PT

That they did, he was the worst top 5 prospect I’ve ever seen and his delusion to quit and go pro after half a season is crazy. I still have a private message he sent me after I clowned him about it.
After three halves of full game film that I’ve now watched on Agbim, which was a full game versus BYU and the first half of Boise State at Wyoming, I’m now ready to provide my first impressions of his game.
PHYSIOLOGICAL PROFILE
6’3” 180 lbs
Despite a thin frame, has a strong upper body and insane vertical leap. Going to assume he has somewhere between a 36”-40” vertical leap. On multiple occasions, he skied for rebounds or went up for dunks that had him elevate well above the rim. Has a quick burst and the ability to change speeds. Can move quickly with or without the ball. Has effortless acceleration. Excellent stamina and shows no slowdown in energy or performance even after logging big minutes. May struggle to defend bigger guards on physical drives due to weight profile, but held up well on film versus bigger guards. More on defense later on. Physical profile and playing with a base reminiscent of a Cason Wallace.
BALL HANDLING
Has exceptional ball handling. Skilled enough to string together advanced dribble moves, often baiting defenders into certain positions before comboing into reacting moves to create scoring opportunities. Chaining together combinations of stepbacks, in and outs, hesitations, crossovers and headfakes makes Agbim a ridiculously difficult assignment for any defensive player to guard in isolation. More on the stepbacks shortly.
PASSING
Excellent passer who can speed read a defense. Seems to effortlessly make passes on time and with precision, whether it is the mundane or the extraordinary. Often whips skip passes without hesitation. Not only a willing passer but genuinely enjoys it. On film, time and time again he was able to create wide open opportunities for teammates (who often miss) using no-look passes or body positioning to create better angles. Between the excellent handling and passing, Agbim is capable of playing a traditional point guard role despite exceptional scoring ability. More on that later.
SLASHING
Did not see him finish under heavy duress very often. I’m unable to determine whether this is because this is a weakness for him. His athleticism would give the impression that he is likely a good finisher around the rim but I can’t say this for certain just yet. There were times that Agbim beat a defender and challenged for posterizer dunks. On at least two occasions, Agbim was clearly fouled but was not rewarded with free throws.
SHOOTING
44.4% 3pt
Has an absolutely lethal jump shot. Very quick straight up and down release with good rotation. Has shocking precision shooting while his body is in motion, whether it be contorted mid range faders, step backs from mid to long range or even heavily guarded shots with defenders draping him. His step back is a thing of beauty and seems to be his favorite shot. He will cause defenders to commit to defending drives before effortlessly creating space with stepbacks on frequent occasion and rarely misses the shot. His stepback is performed in single, refined motion and has drawn multiple fouls. Outstanding three point shooter whether creating for himself or from spot up and/or catch and shoot. Despite being keyed on by opposing defenses, he finds ways to attack the open spaces of defenses with excellent off-ball movement. Creates 2-3 wide open shot opportunities per game simply with reads and non-stop movement.
DEFENSE
Willing and capable perimeter defender. Highly intelligent and disciplined defensively. Doesn’t gamble for steals but frequently intercepts passes that are thrown in his direction. Not an elite positional defender but very, very solid. Doesn’t make mistakes and is almost always in the correct place to make a play. Contests well on jump shots and has the lateral quickness to cut off drives. On some rare occasions, gave up first step by guessing wrong on drives. Exceptional help defender who has good knowledge of spacing. Able to help into passing lanes before quickly rotating back to primary assignment. Has very poor defensive rating in advanced metrics, but I believe this is a function of poor team metrics. Has all the tools to be a very good defender.
INTANGIBLES
Formerly a division two player but has NBA upside. Despite exceptional toolbox, is one of the most unselfish players on the court. Plays with a stable motor, yet is consistent and unmoved by pressure. Regardless of the score, he remains engaged with similar effort on both sides of the ball. Highly efficient player who doesn’t force the issue, but shows the ability to completely take over a game with his scoring, his passing or his leadership. On-court coach who is vocal with teammates on offense and defense, often pointing out mismatches, re-positioning players and showing emotion during the game when teammates score off passes, after intercepting a ball, etc.
SUMMARY
Combo guard with on-ball and off-ball skills. Does he have what it takes to excel at Kentucky? In my mind, there is zero doubt. The kid is a diamond in the rough and could easily have much more gaudy stats if he weren’t so unselfish. Almost a prototypical player for a Mark Pope offense. Sign me up everyday and twice on Sunday.
