O lineman from Ohio State

Kind of mind blowing we brought in O line transfers from

Alabama
Southern Cal
Ohio State

All in 1 offseason

And before anyone observes 'they were 3rd & 4th string there!@#', that ain't how those powerhouses viewed them when recruiting & signing them.

Looks like a guard all the way.

Possible depth in 2023 and competes for a starting spot in 2024 is his rationale.
Or.....
Cox is moving back to Center, and this Dude takes his Guard Spot and Jager backs up Guard and Center.

No kidding. Obviously it's not a guarantee that any of these FB transfers will be good...but at least Stoops is trying to fix the problem. Cal is a joke with the portal.
Why didn’t he get these kind of portal OL transfers before last season ?? Rich Scang could’ve used them, for sure.

It wasn’t for lack of trying. they tried to get Tyler Steen who decided to go to Alabama and then there was Tashawn Manning who we got. Beyond that there weren’t many good options in the portal. It was expected that Flax would take a step forward at RT.

I think the staff also learned from last year that you need to move quickly and if someone strings you along you have to move on.

With Steen last year he seemed like the only T we were after. Once Bama got involved we stuck with him and missed out.

Plus it took us awhile to get our replacement in iirc. Tough to recruit offense without an oc and with the incoming ol coach having zero contacts

For sure

Stoops is trying to win first and foremost (ie doing his job ). Cal is promising kids spots and minutes plain and simple and players come first and program be damned

Could you imagine Cal in football…..he’d get his starting unit and not wand to bother with competition and depth. He might not use more of them 50 scholarships

The better and more experienced coaches like Stoops and Ferentz have both had banner transfer portal additions this year. They have been savvy about who they take and only take guys to fill obvious needs.

At Iowa, the same thing, we feel really good about who we got in the portal. I think Iowa has 8 portal transfer guys now and each one will play this fall and contribute and most of them will be starters. Four of the 8 come from our rivals Michigan, Ohio State, and Wisconsin and a fifth an all-ACC player from Virginia.

Good job there by Stoops.

I think this has been discussed somewhere before, views/assessments of players before their starting college can change once the player gets to school & tries to compete.

Did Christman play at all in two years at OSU? Thanks.

Can also depend on coaches evaluation of players and what position the coaches have them playing. Sometimes a change of scenery makes a big difference with some players.

9 snaps. Total. He's not coming in and starting.

Depending on the depth OSU had last year does not mean Chrisman could start or not start. Heck his is highly rated out of Highschool and might be the next big player at UK. It does not matter how deep on the depth chart he was at OSU, or BAMA or of the big dogs in college. You know all those teams stockpile talent at line. This guy has a shot to make a difference on this team. It will be all up to him. Let him get here, get acclimated to the program, coaches and such and if he is mean and nasty like they say, teach him pass blocking and get him on the field.
