Novice Fan Needs Help (Namely, me).

I've been a huge UK football fan my entire life. But, for the great majority of my life, I haven't been able to attend any games due to geography (lived too far away as a kid) or finances (I'm a teacher in rural Kentucky; student loan payments come first).

But now, at the ripe old age of 39, I am happy to say that I have managed to put away a little bit of savings so I can go see a game for the first time in my life. There is however an issue, a rather embarrassing one at that: I really don't know the best way to procure tickets or what to do when I get them. I know I can buy them from the UK website, but is there a better way? What do I do about parking? I don't know Lexington very well and I have no friends or relatives in the area. Could someone please walk me through the gameday experience?

These questions may seem ridiculous for die hard fans, but for someone what has never attended a college game on any level in any sport, they are all too real.

Thanks ahead of time.

Well you can go to stubhub or ticketmaster if you like...i usually have luck just getting them out front of gate on game day...parking on the otherhand....depends how far you wanna walk
I usually park across from library and make 12 minute walk.

The tickets available online will be bad seats. I suggest going onto the official UK site and make a copy of the commonwealth stadium seating chart. Then arrive at least an hour before game time and watch where the crowds are flowing to the stadium on the North Side, which is Nicholasville Rd. That's where the main scalpers are. Early on, check the prices for the good seats that he has. If you wait until about 15 minutes before game time, they should be lower prices. However, if it's a big name opponent, buy early or there won't be any left. If you hang around him, you'll see how many tickets are left and be able to get good seats. You'll pay more than face, but I'd rather pay more and have side lower deck at least 20 rows up to see the holes open and it will be special for you. Hope you have a great time.

When I went last year I found the best way to park is to do it at Rupp Arena. They have shuttle buses that run from Rupp to the stadium before and after the game. You bypass all the traffic trying to get to and leave the stadium. I had no problem getting from the parking lot back to the freeway at all.

When I've needed an extra ticket, I've always just stood around outside the stadium until about 5 minutes before the game. Guys that laughed at you earlier for offering face value, will take $10. There have been times I paid $5. I've been cursed at, yelled at, etc.... but have always found cheap tickets. As for seating, I've sat in every area of the stadium. Some better than others, but the main thing is you'll have a good view no matter where you are.

I see guys selling up and down Nicholasville road all the time. It's been the same guys for the past couple of years so I am shure they will be out again this year. Enjoy your first game you'll be hooked!
