Not sure what this means, but Murray is 12-20 from 3 in our two losses

I think it's a few things. One, I think Murray is more of an emotional player than it seems. When were scrapping and clawing, he seems to shine. Find a way to get him to play like that all the time.

I'd like to see us set up his offense before we're behind and playing catch up. As of now, the offense should flow through Murray, and if we can get him on, that'll open up chances for the others.

To do that, we'll need rebounding, rebounding, rebounding.

Obviously, I want Murray to keep lighting it up, but not if it only happens when we are losing.
I'd bet big money Cal would rather have a team with balanced scoring and effort. Me too. Doesn't have that now and until he does look for a few more monster games from Murray.

It's because the offense doesn't become shoot first and ran through Murray until we are down double digits and needing a run at the end of the game.

When you are down double digits, there is little pressure but lots of adrenaline. It's the easiest time to get in a zone.

It means we have a bunch of other players who aren't holding up their end of the deal.A one man team is easier to beat than one with multiple players chipping in to get stuff done

Doc I agree with you in principal. However, Murray is our zone buster and if teams are going to sag to prevent the dribble drive..thank God we have at least one guy who can make them pay.
I also think Ulis will start knocking threes down with consistency as well.

It means we need to start setting up easier, open looks for him earlier in the game, whether it be through drives and kick-outs, utilizing big men that can set screens, or big men that can pass out of the post.

I'm not saying they won't step up(in fact I think more than one will) but they didn't in the OSU game,we aren't built that way and will find it hard to win as a one man show.As I said in another post, if you were told before the game that Murray(or any player for that matter)would score 33 how much would you have been willing to bet that we would win?

Murray is probably our #1 player right now. He almost brought us back against Ohio State. 12 of 20 is good. Most guys would love to shoot that well from 3.

We have an inside out game. We force it inside to initiate the offense and when we get far behind coach tells Murray to try and get us back in the game. If it was me it would be opposite I would have the guards be the focal point with Murray leading the way. He's going to command double teams and be able to draw a big out from the post. Guards open up the inside everytime.

Got me on why Cal is playing Skal out of position and forcing him to be a banger down low :chairshot: Should be playing Humphries or Lee at the 5 with Skal at the 4 just to see how it works. What will it hurt to see? Dude is terrible down low.

If our bigs can't score, someone has to. There's only so many lay ups briscoe is going to hit & if Ulis can't finish, then someone has to score. Thank goodness we have him or the losses could be worse.

Lee is like a guaranteed 10-12 pts a game. When Poythress adds 10-15 pts on top of it, we are usually fine inside scoring wise..... unfortunately Poy and Skal were both MIA and Humphries didnt even get a shot at PT.

This is obviously just opinion, but I'm afraid that this happens when Cal's "Plan A" goes out the window. It appears that "Plan B" is to tell Murray to try to dig us out of a hole by taking over the game. Now, this begs the question - what is "Plan A"? So far, it appears that most players are being instructed to avoid jumpers in lieu of driving to the hole and either go to the rim (and force a bad shot) or throw a lob. I'm also afraid that this is because Cal has realized that we are not a good shooting team (sans Murray, and maybe Ulis eventually). The downside to this is that, when going to the rim, a lot of foul shot opportunities are created, and converting free throws is something we don't particularly excel in. So, with all of that said, we see Murray "lighting it up" when we're trying to rally from a late comeback, but that doesn't mean he can't otherwise. But, unless Cal changes the game plan, we may only see it in the prior scenario.

Murray did his best work in the pan am games during crunch time as well. And those were mostly games he won or had a small lead in while he was going off.

Pressure makes some guys better and it makes some guys fold. Murray is clearly the former IMO.

Not sure about the rest of our team.

I know one thing.......come tourney time and we are in a bunch of close games, I am thankful Murray is on our team and not the team we'll be facing.

When the rest of the team is struggling, Murray asserts himself in the game. When the team is playing well, he let's it come to him. That is one of the characteristics of a good player.

It is nice to that Murray is shooting 39% from 3 now but I am a little nervous that he is that way hatter a career game rather than by being consistent. It was a heck of a half he played but we should not expect that every night.

I would rather us do a better job of setting all 5 guys up for easy buckets all night. We tried but whenever poy would go strong he got owned at the rim or lee would lose the handle.

We will start clicking I just don't know when or what it will look like.
