but didn't Cal pretty much nix the idea of playing in the Maui invitational. Something about playing 3 games in 3 days, which is what all 8 teams in that tourney actually do. I may claim Roger Clemens disease and be 'Misremembering' !!

Cal doesn't like how much travel is involved to get there, plus all the jet lag. However, I think he hates Hawaiians because he's never tried to recruit one. :)

Pretty funny about the 'Hawaiians', we traveled to Maui under Sutton, Pitino, Tubby, and Cal, always had a large contengent of fans there. Do not understand why the travel is suddenly a concern. UK fans loved going to that event every 4 years !!

I have been and it is great. However, Cal doesn't like the travel time since that takes away from practice, and he doesn't like playing 3 games in 3 days. I think another reason is that since we are playing tough games against good competition, his young kids need some time to learn the college game, and Maui, right after playing Mich St, KU, or Duke, may be a little much. With a young team, there are times that we could have 5-6 losses before the conference begins.

He took Memphis there in 2006/07, and went with UK in 2010/11 (although that was scheduled before he came to UK I believe).

At any rate, I think the Battle for Atlantis has become the better tournament. The travel is easier and the facilities are better. Still a vacation to Hawaii is nice, especially if the school is footing the bill.
