Not claiming to being an insider BUT...

All this is coming from someone close to the program that is around these kids a lot.

Choose to believe it or not, but I'll post what I hear and continue to hear as long as people are respectable.

-Skal is really worrying the coaches at UK. I think the year off really has set in him back. He doesn't have any "dog in him". It's not that he's lazy but MANY 18 year old kids need to develop a mean streak. If you've ever spoke to the kid, he's laid back. S

-Skal won't stay past this year 1000%. Draft is weak this year compared to next. SO FORGET about that before you even think twice.

- Briscoe is becoming more of a leader in practice and it's showing. Better than advertised. He's putting in EXTRA work in the gym. When I say extra, I mean when we're all sleeping the kid is going at it. HE'S THE DOG on the team.

- 100% Ulis shouldn't have played tonight if pain was the factor. A testament to his toughness. Enjoy him while you can. 2nd rounder.

- I would relax, this team is exactly were the coaching staff figured they would. Cal doesn't mind this loss, TRUST ME.

- Oh, and if the kid and coaches has their way...Our new kid from New Zealand plays THIS year.

Take it for what it's worth. Choose to believe any of this, but I'll post more when I get it.

I don't mind this loss. Sometimes a team needs a wake up call. I know Cal has said in the past that a loss is never a good thing, but I think that is just Cal being Cal. He wants to win every game. If anyone can toughen up Skal it is Cal. This team will be okay. I would rather be #1 at the end of the year than the beginning.

I'm not an insider but none of this surprises me at all, and none of it is exactly earth shattering.

Exactly. The OP acts like he's sharing some hot insider information, when actually everything he says is obvious to anyone who's been paying attention. Skal is developing slower than anticipated and ain't playing with a mean streak? Umm, yeah, we can all see that. Skal ain't coming back next year? Oh my! Did anyone ever think he was?

But, hey, thanks for the scoop.

Good grief, lay off the guy - he said nothing wrong that I can see.

It's good to hear about Wynard and Briscoe. And hopefully Skal grows a pair on the court. He seems like a great kid - that doesn't mean you have to be Mr Nice Guy on the court though.

as a fan i said i didn't like the idea of playing ucla at their place when it was first announced. neutral court fine, but obviously what happened last night was way more beneficial to ucla---even if we would have won it would have helped them more than us. it put their house on the national stage for all the west coast recruiting base to see.
i say this because we are trying to overtake their 11 titles and i just don't like the idea of giving them any kind of advantage, no mattter how small.
maybe it's no more significant than whizzing in the ocean, but as a diehard bb fan i can't stand the thought of giving them any kind of edge.
does anybody else feel this way or am i just being a spoiled selfish big blue fanatic?

You aren't the only one - I feel the same way. Losing last night did nothing to help our west coast recruiting, but it sure helped theirs.

One loss on the road in December has diminished UK's chances to eventually overtake UCLA's 11 titles? I vote for this post being equal to whizzing in the ocean.

You can see what can be in Skal a few plays every game. But he has to develop mentally. He is very skilled but just doesn't get position in the post. If we could make him mean I think that could be huge for this teams tourney aspirations. I think everyone can tell Briscoe is the dog. That dude just doesn't seem to get rattled and plays hard both ends of the floor. If he could develop a consistent jumper he would be unreal.

OP, you told us literally nothing that by just following the program, people wouldn't know.

Cal agreed to the game to get West Coast exposure.

Cal and Alford are good friends too.

Lots of young kids on the West Coast in the next couple classes that would look good in Lexington, KY.

It wasn't our intent to lose and help UCLA recruiting. We wanted to win thus helping our recruiting, and getting UCLA to come to Rupp required us going there. If we are afraid to schedule tough teams because the loss hurts our recruiting then we cant complain if they have a schedule full of Creampuff U's. Id rather play a good schedule and take chances that some losses are going to come as a result.

Well hopefully we can play UCLA or Cal in the tournament and win so we can get our recruiting mojo back.

This loss doesn't hurt recruiting. Kids won't remember this game and select UCLA over UK.

UK is Nike, UCLA is Adidas, and both coaches like and respect each other. They won't battle for many.

It's more of getting exposure on the West Coast. A lot of high schoolers are in practice when 7 pm EST games happen on the West Coast.

It's also a nice trip for his players and a chance for them to visit another school with a lot of history.

This is exactly why people who know things don't share, because of ignorant fans who bad mouth people who share.

I'm not even much of a UK fan because of this, BBN kills me sometimes. I am more of fan of the high school players I have known and have chose UK.
I was wondering what Maggard's new ID would be.

It's sad that you had to explain this.

I'm kind of worried about Skal, too. If he's not going to beat and bang, at least bring your jump shot into the equation. He folded last night while their seven footer killed us with 15-foot jump shots.

Man, I am all for posts like yours. This is Kentucky. Almost all of here in this state breath, eat, shit basketball. Most of us have a connection to a player, coach, booster, or someone in the program. So its not surprising, that someone might hear some small tidbits.

While sure, it may not be the biggest juice pot story, please feel free to share any insight, even if its just a small conversation. Appreciate it and thanks!

You really haven't received any criticism from your post. (TP gave you the biggest bash and that was very tame from him. He might have said he never heard of you.) What was stated by many seemed to be taking it very easy on you. (In any messaging format of any type.) (They could have said something about your Momma.) If these type posts run you away I look at that as more telling than your informative post. jmuo

Kentucky will continue to play basketball despite the loss. Many do not like that we lost. Trust me, the coaches do not like to lose. We will dribble, shoot, and pass in practice to get better. The coaches are working this team hard. We will play our schedule. Fly to some games. Drive on a bus to other games that are closer. Trust me on this. I will share what I know. Thanks.

Thanks, but yea a lot of that I think we all see. Certainly that Briscoe is emerging and Skal is playing like his pair are the size of pea's. Ulis played with a lot of heart as we expect from him, but was not 100%. I agree, it's just one game early. What really disappointed me is the team, even the staff seemed to come into this game not realizing UCLA was going to be fired up to avenge last year's game. They did! They basically knocked us to the canvas in the 1st round, and then toyed with us every time we managed to get back on our feet.

OT I'll grant you, but could this be the start of a new rivalry. Let's not forget they have to come to Rupp next year. I doubt the Cat's will come out flat for that one.

I've coached for a while now, I've heard things worse. I was making a point about how UK fans act. Nothing personal.

They are nuts. You just started posting and not sure how long or if you have been on this site but this thread is to say the least....tame. To say the most not at all are you getting barbecued. (I've been there and done that.) [winking]

Thank you, I like UK fans that I've met in person but I'm sure if UK didn't lose last night I wouldn't get this backlash.

There wasn't anything wrong with your post OP. You hang out here very long and you'll realize some on here will attack any post from folks who claim to have some first hand knowledge on anything. No matter how right they are. Ask @kubballfan23 how it feels to be on the grill.

BBUK - what was the story from last night. You said you would tell it after the game? Something about the team being pissed about something???

Why posters give a ration of sh*t to posters like the OP seem to just be looking to argue. The info was good so why dog him. Yes some of these things are pretty obvious but so what.
