Having re-watched the UL game, those UL fans have nothing to complain about. They were able to get several scores off turn-overs unfortunately due to Skal and separately from Murray over-dribbling as well as Freshman mistakes like stepping out of bounds and coming back in. In the first half, a missed shot by UL with Skal under the basket (when Willis was defending) is quickly rebounded instead by UL for a put back score. On a fast break, Ulis makes an incredible pass to Skal at the basket who puts up a soft shot which is blocked from behind for a turn-over. Two lay-ups occur for UL when Skal is in there at the basket but is too slow to react. Then when Lee and Poy are back in the same drive by Lee is blocked but a foul is correctly called and Poy hits Lee's arm . Unfortunately, Skal is a work in progress. Cal would pull him immediately out but then sub him back. I think it is the only way for this kid to grow is to have the growing pains of these type of mistakes and we have to live with them.

Again, Skal missed out on the development he would have attained if he remained in public schools as an athlete
Quickness can be improved with drills, weight can be added through nutrition and weight training, stamina can be achieved with running and cycling
I am not, and I don't think anyone else should be, surprised at where Skal is and neither should they be surprised when a year from now we have the potential "National Player of the Year" out there
Moreover, the way Cal has taken him in as a personal responsibility, the kid has a brighter future than any of us do

I'm rooting for him, but he will never be a NPOY candidate. That's a ship that sailed once we saw what we're dealing with.

Skals issues are not lack of playing its lack of real coaching. Lots of these kids play 5'4 Virgin boys in high school. I'm not sure why some still fail to call it right. It's been explained.

Okay

You asked for it

How man guys have you personally coached up and put in the League?

OP, thanks for not bashing Skal but you were quite thorough doing it.....

I think Cal is using him wisely. He hasn't been playing a ton of minutes. He's played enough to get some game time in and see where his development is, but not so much that he loses confidence from poor production. I think it will alow him to get incrementally better throughout the season.

When Skal's light bulb does come on, it's gonna be an eye opener. :flushed: He's got full support from Coach and team and "some" fans. It'll happen... Enjoy the ride.
