North Carolina Tar Heels are No. 1 in preseason Top 25 (and one)

I don't disagree with UNC being #1. They return a lot, but I think we will eventually overtake them.

Of course that's just CBS, not the AP or Coaches poll. Still a good top 10 though many would quibble over it's order. I can buy IU as a top 15 team. I never bought them being in the top 5.

I'm not holding my breath on this, but they certainly deserve it (and much, much more).
My thoughts on this exactly. There does not seem to be a lot of buzz on it and no real drop in recruiting that I am aware of. That seems to suggest no fear of punishment or much if they get any.

Dont forget the co-colers.

I heard they self imposed a ban on them free co-colers to make up for all that cheatin they done. Still get one a them moon pies of you turn in your pre-printed paper within a week of when it were due.

Can you imagine what a logistics problem that must present? How are you supposed to turn in your paper late if you don't know where the class meets and have never been there? People think this cheating stuff is easy, but its not.

They have one 4 star and one 3 star in the 2015 class. Two 4 stars in the 2016 class. One player a 5 star in the 2017 class and that guy is a legacy who recently stated he may reopen his recruitment. Do these sound like typical UNC*** classes? The great recruits out of the state of North Carolina have been going to other schools.

All of the top talent in NC is going elsewhere. You should head over to Pack Pride and check the latest on the scandal. Doesn't look good for UNC. They may not get a post season ban this year, but their punishment is coming.

Recruiting is not over yet for the next couple of years. They do not hit on it every year like Cal. This year's team (2015) is ranked #1 in one preseason poll. I don't think they were too concerned about this year, let's wait and see in the next couple of years to see what happens. I believe the relative silence on this recently has quieted some fears.

So you don't think they wanted guys like Brandon Ingram, Dennis Smith, Jr., or Harry Giles?

Don't get me wrong folks, I hope you guys are right. But, this year they really did not need much. So far, next year they are currently ranked 12th. 2017 (way too early) but they already have a 5 star committed. I am skeptical of the NCAA and until they do something about all of the cheating, I will take a wait and see approach. I think many on here want so much for them to be punished that "we" will jump at anything to hope for their failure. BTW, we means me too.

Yes, but we don't always get who we wanted too.

They have historically been the main state school, and one of the top 5 programs nationally.

They have had more recent in state talent than at any time in their history.

And none of them are choosing UNC. Got to believe the scandal has a lot to do with that.

You could be right about that but, as I said, until I see the punishment or know for certain it is coming, I am not so convinced that they will fall off enough to take them out of the picture of prominence. I just can't see the NCAA allowing that to happen.

I think recruiting has slipped in anticipation of punishment, but you're right, we don't know what the NCAA might do.

Well, admittedly , I have not kept up with it as completely as others because of how long it has taken for the NCAA to act. Most of my stance on this is more in what I think the NCAA might not do and therefore allow them to skate by with little or no repercussions. Since their infractions, there have been others who have already been punished for much lesser infractions committed after UNC committed theirs.

Also, my thoughts on drop is more in line with a mass exodus of current players along with people taking UNC off of their list.

I don't see UNC being the best team in college basketball this coming season. I know they return a lot of talent, but its not like we're talking elite talent. The reason they return so much is the fact none of them were good enough to leave early. Don't get me wrong. I do think UNC will be a pretty good team, capable of beating the very best any given day. I just don't think they will have enough shooting to compete for a title. I'm not sold on their defense being elite. They did lose their best defender. I know Paige has a lot of hype built up, but so far I don't see the Why all the hype. Most say he's been playing injured and that might be true. If that's the case, I hope he has an injury free season so I get to see what the fuss is about with this kid.

The Chapel Hill diploma mill shouldn't even be eligible for post season play and probably shouldn't even be allowed to participate until the decades of fraud has been addressed. If they somehow win it all this year I'm gonna go ballistic.

We're talking about a 12 loss team last year ... I don't get it. What has changed so much? Other than they more than likely have became more remedial over the offseason ...

Not so much with a few four star guys (Kenny Williams, Brandon Robinson and Tony Bradley), but I do think Brandon Ingram may have had some cold feet given the scandal. His AAU coach was Jerry Stackhouse, so obvious Carolina connections there.

Also think it's hurting their chances some with Harry Giles given the consensus ATM that Duke is the favorite.

I don't get why a middling UNC team that historically underachieves is anyone's preseason #1? They will be out of the top 10 by January.

Yes.

Not only are they not getting these guys, they aren't even coming in the top 2-3 finalists. It's all about Duke and NC State right now.

I don't like UNC at all, but they would have to really misstep to fall out of top10. Not even in ACC play, their only real opposition is Maryland and UCLA... maybe Texas and Davidson can give them a scare.. but they probably walk to ACC play with no less than 2 losses.

It's a solid, experienced team, with a cupcake OOC schedule.. Unfortunately they will be in the thick of it for the first few months.

Y'all are underestimating how good Luke Maye is.Gary 7 one of the most informed posters of all time has touted him as an all time great NBA player. With him on the team they probably won't every game by 60

We went from a 10+ loss team to 38-1, it happens.

Experience is the reason for UNC being considered a top team. The only question is does blatant cheating matter? Obviously recruits think so.

Uhh.. We had a #1 class (or #2 in retrospect) coming in to help that 10 loss team. UNC has nothing in addition this year: garbage time recruits and a sub-30 ranked class. They are quite literally the same exact team as last year.

Not to mention our struggles in 2013/14 were because of youth and an abundance of freshman. You take that same exact team, with no recruits for 2015, and they probably rattle off a 4-loss season, maybe less.

This UNC team is good, but it's largely the same team we saw last year.

This is the worst possible scenario for the NCAA. A situation that they apparently want to avoid or procrastinate on (investigating and ruling on UNC cheating scandal) will become a hot topic if UNC is a top team and competing for a Final Four or Championship this year.

I hate the Heels and think it's a travesty they aren't banned from the 2016 tournament after been charged with LOIC.

But they have four very good pieces and a few other decent role players. I'll be nervous y til someone knocks them out of the tournament and they officially enter NCAA purgatory.

The NCAA should be charged with loss of a spine, their a worthless bunch, can't get anything right, they have investigated and charged other schools all along UNCheat going on 2 years now, more or less, go figure:uzi::bomb::boom::fire::flush:
