Shaqquan Aaron - Rainier Beach H. S. (Seattle, WA) - Jan. 18; Committed to Louisville - Beat Bishop O'Connell H. S (Arlington, VA) 60-65; 6"-8"; 174 lbs; #23 ranked player 2014 class; SG - 4-10 FG; 1-3 3-Ptr; 2-2 FT; 11 Pts; 4 Reb; 2 PF; 5 A; 1 TO; 3 Blk; 1 Stl; in 30 minutes. His game was more a PG or Point Forward. Long and skinny. Disappeared at times. Looks for teammates and pass first, ending with 5 assists.
Abdul Malik Abu - Kimball Union Academy (Meriden, NH) - Jan. 19; Committed to North Carolina State; Lost to Northfield Mount Hermon School (Mount Hermon, MA) 51-80; 6"-8"; 232 lbs; #47 ranked player 2014 class; PF - 6-14 FG; 0-1 3-Ptr; 3-11 FT; 15 Pts; 9 Reb; 0 PF; 1 A; 4 TO; 4 Blk; 0 Stl; in 38 minutes. Lots of hops, but not a lot of offensive skills. I wonder how many years he has played basketball. Played the 5, but will probably be a PF at NC St. Quick off his feet like Nerlens. Didn't see him do anything with the ball and, other than dunks, has limited offensive game now.
Jalen Adams - Cushing Academy (Ashburnham, MA) - Jan. 19; Offers from Minnesota, Kansas, Kansas St, Minnesota, and Providence; Beat Worcester Academy (Worcester, MA) 93-83; 6"-1"; 170 lbs; #66 ranked player 2015 class; PG - 12-20 FG; 4-6 3-Ptr; 4-4 FT; 32 Pts; 5 Reb; 4 PF; 3 A; 4 TO; 0 Blk; 3 Stl; in 32 minutes of a 40 minute prep school game. Listed as PG, but today he was SG or Combo. Flashy player who slashes to the basket. Nice mid-range J, as well as a nice stroke on the 3's (4 of 6).
Jalen Coleman - La Lumiere School (LaPorte, IN) - Jan. 19; Among his 13 offers includes Arizona, Indiana, Michigan, Mich St, Notre Dame, Ohio St, and UCLA; Beat Our Savior New American (Centereach, NY) 65-55; 6"-3"; 160 lbs; #34 ranked player 2015 class; PG - 10-17 FG; 8-11 3-Ptr; 0-0 FT; 28 Pts; 1 Reb; 3 PF; 0 A; 1 TO; 0 Blk; 0 Stl; in 29 minutes. Listed by Rivals as a PG, but what PG takes 17 shots! Really nice stroke on his jumpers confident today with his 3-pointers.
Brandone Francis - Arlington Country Day School (Jacksonville, FL) - Jan. 19; Committed to Florida; Beat St. Benedict's Prep (Newark, NJ) 64-54; 6"-5"; 209 lbs; #25 ranked player 2014 class; SG - 1-6 FG; 0-2 3-Ptr; 0-0 FT; 2 Pts; 2 Reb; 2 PF; 0 A; 1 TO; 0 Blk; 0 Stl; in only 10 minutes. For some of you old-timers you may be interested to know that ACD is coached by Rex Morgan. Rex played on Jacksonville (and later with the Celtics) with Artis Gilmore and scored 28 points in their victory over the Issel/Pratt UK team. Playing only 10 minutes, I'm guessing that he has an injury or was sick. Not much chance to see his game. I thought his J was ugly. Aggressive, but herky jerky. I'm sure this was not a typical game for Brandone.
Daniel Hamilton - St. John Bosco H. S. (Bellflower, CA) - Jan. 18; Committed to Connecticut - Beat St. Frances Academy (Baltimore, MD) 63-60; 6"-8"; 178 lbs; #16 ranked player 2014 class; SG - 10-21 FG; 1-1 3-Ptr; 4-7 FT; 25 Pts; 9 Reb; 0 PF; 4 A; 3 TO; 2 Blk; 2 Stl; in 32 minutes. Tall, thin PG. Likes to have the ball and tries to work his way into the paint for a shot. Too much dribbling and 1-on-1. In a close game, missed 3 free throws at the end of the game.
Vance Jackson - St. John Bosco H. S. (Bellflower, CA) - Jan. 18; Beat St. Frances Academy (Baltimore, MD) 63-60; 6"-7"; 195 lbs; #28 ranked player 2016 class; SF - 10-16 FG; 5-11 3-Ptr; 1-1 FT; 26 Pts; 8 Reb; 1 PF; 0 A; 3 TO; 0 Blk; 1 Stl; in 32 minutes. Only a sophomore, this 6'-7" actually seems to play as if he were 6'-5". Not very quick. Has a nice release on his spot-up 3's. Not sure if this was a typical game for Vance or if was one of his best games. This is a kid to see how he develops over the next 2 years.
Kaleb Joseph - Cushing Academy (Ashburnham, MA) - Jan. 19; Committed to Syracuse; Beat Worcester Academy (Worcester, MA) 93-83; 6"-3"; 170 lbs; #52 ranked player 2014 class; PG - 6-12 FG; 1-3 3-Ptr; 4-4 FT; 17 Pts; 5 Reb; 2 PF; 8 A; 3 TO; 0 Blk; 0 Stl; in 36 minutes of a 40 minute prep school game. A true PG and shorter than most players on the Cuse. Definitely a distributor (8 assists), but didn't see him really set up anything. Wasn't looking to shoot and did not work for a shot. Surprised Boeheim wants a 6'-3" guard at the top of his zone.
Dwayne Morgan - St. Frances Academy (Baltimore, MD) - Jan. 18; Committed to UNLV - Lost to St. John Bosco H. S. (Bellflower, CA) 60-63; 6"-8"; 190 lbs; #20 ranked player 2014 class; SF - 6-15 FG; 1-5 3-Ptr; 0-0 FT; 13 Pts; 6 Reb; 3 PF; 3 A; 3 TO; 3 Blk; 2 Stl; in 29 minutes. To me, it appeared he is heavier than the listed 190 lbs and plays big. However, played mostly around the free throw line and didn't post up. Moves well without the ball.
Josh Sharma - Northfield Mount Hermon School (Mount Hermon, MA) - Jan. 19; Vanderbilt coach said they have a good relationship with him, but some of the "big boys" are starting to show interest; Beat Kimball Union Academy (Meriden, NH) 80-51; 6"-11"; 215 lbs; #76 ranked player 2015 class; PF/C - 6-7 FG; 1-1 3-Ptr; 0-0 FT; 13 Pts; 2 Reb; 3 PF; 1 A; 3 TO; 2 Blk; 0 Stl; in only 14 minutes of a 40 minute prep school game. Had a terrible start, getting his 2nd foul after only 49 seconds had elapsed and sat out the remaining 19:11 of the first half. As are many tall kids, he is a little weak and needs to put on some pounds. Has nice hands and a nice little game.
Ben Simmons - Montverde Academy (Montverde, FL) - Jan. 20; Although only a Junior he has committed to LSU; Beat Lost to Curie High School (Chicago, IL) 73-69; 6"-8"; 190 lbs; #7 ranked player 2015 class; PF - 7-12 FG; 0-0 3-Ptr; 0-0 FT; 14 Pts; 12 Reb; 1 PF; 0 A; 1 TO; 3 Blk; 1 Stl; in 30 minutes. I don't think this kid actually knows how good he can be yet. He's long and runs the floor. Being Australian, maybe that is where he got his above the rim hops. Not sure about his shooting because almost all of his shots were dunks or put backs. I think we will not be looking to seeing Ben when we play LSU starting with his 2nd or 3rd year.
Derryck Thornton, Jr. - Findlay College Prep (Henderson, NV) - Jan. 20; Already has 10 offers, including Arizona, USC, UCLA, UNLV, and Vanderbilt; Beat Wesleyan Christian School (High Point, NC) 73-43; 6"-2"; 165 lbs; #36 ranked player 2016 class; PG - 1-9 FG; 0-2 3-Ptr; 4-6 FT; 6 Pts; 6 Reb; 1 PF; 10 A; 3 TO; 1 Blk; 1 Stl; in 30 minutes. As only a sophomore and starting PG on this basketball powerhouse says something. For this game he looked like a Soph too often. Little shaky and erratic at times. Shoots too much and too early in the shot clock at times, but all Findlay needs him to do is play the point (10 assists!). I suppose his shooting was off today (1-9) and Coach Jerome Williams wouldn't be playing him if he always shoots like this. Does a good job pushing the ball. As he matures and learns the point, and he will if he stays at Findlay, he will make a fine PG for someone.
Romelo Trimble - Bishop O'Connell H. S. (Arlington, VA) - Jan. 18; Committed to Maryland - Lost to Rainier Beach (Seattle, WA) 65-60; 6"-2"; 190 lbs; #33 ranked player 2014 class; PG - 7-22 FG; 0-6 3-Ptr; 12-14 FT; 26 Pts; 7 Reb; 2 PF; 0 A; 7 TO; 0 Blk; 4 Stl; in 32 minutes. Good body, quick, aggressive, and steady. Likes to drive and draws fouls. Runs the offensive, but not shy about shooting (shot too much for a PG). Shot too many ill-advised 3's. Under control on fast break layups.
Lamonte Turner - Arlington Country Day School (Jacksonville, FL) - Jan. 19; Only a Sophomore, has offers from Jacksonville and Mercer, and being recruited by Alabama, GA Tech, Louisville, and Virginia; Beat St. Benedict's Prep (Newark, NJ) 64-54; 6"-2"; 170 lbs; #33 ranked player 2016 class; PG - 6-10 FG; 3-4 3-Ptr; 1-1 FT; 16 Pts; 1 Reb; 1 PF; 1 A; 2 TO; 1 Blk; 2 Stl; in 20 minutes. For some of you old-timers you may be interested to know that ACD is coached by Rex Morgan. Rex played on Jacksonville (and later with the Celtics) with Artis Gilmore and scored 28 points in their victory over the Issel/Pratt UK team. Listed as a PG, but played on the wing today. Nice looking 3's and takes it strong to the hoop. Didn't handle the ball a lot.
Craig Victor, II - Findlay College Prep (Henderson, NV) - Jan. 20; Committed to Arizona; Beat Wesleyan Christian School (High Point, NC) 73-43; 6"-8"; 205 lbs; #25 ranked player 2014 class; PF - 4-7 FG; 0-2 FT; 8 Pts; 5 Reb; 2 PF; 1 A; 3 TO; 1 Blk; 1 Stl; in 29 minutes. From New Orleans, Craig is strong inside although is a little clumsy at times. Had 4 rebounds and then disappeared.
Isaiah Whitehead - Abraham Lincoln H. S. (Brooklyn, NY) - Jan. 18; Committed to Seton Hall - Beat Houston Yates H. S. (Houston, TX) 90-66; 6"-4"; 195 lbs; #15 ranked player 2014 class; SG - 5-14 FG; 1-4 3-Ptr; 1-2 FT; 12 Pts; 7 Reb; 4 PF; 6 A; 9 TO; 0 Blk; 4 Stl; in 24 minutes. This was as ugly a game I have seen in some time. Twenty-six turnovers by one team and 23 by the other, 9 by Whitehead alone. I've seen him play on TV and was impressed, but this was such a terrible game that I wasn't able to pay attention to Isaiah. I'm sure he is a better player than he displayed here, but isn't Seton Hall one of the schools to go disappear?
