Actually, after I watched it a few times, I thought maybe it wasn't intended to be a handshake.
I am sure that not too many will agree with me but I honestly didn't think he had his hand out for a handshake. While it did appear that way at first, the body language and facial expressions just didn't support that. I think that, in this case, appearances are deceiving.

Looking at it again, you may be right. Pope's face when he starts talking doesn't indicate he's upset with Pitino. Maybe 3 stacks was just telling him a story about being left hanging or something.

I agree, buuuuuuut, watch the clip till the end. I can't read lips, but when rp looks back, I swear, it looks like he says "asshole". Which makes it more funny
Either 1 of 2 things happened here. Pope is quite taller than Pitino and Rick's hand is rather low and Mark is looking at Pitino in the face and may not have seen the extended hand. The other scenerio is that it's not a handshake. We don't see the entire conversation or the beginning when they first started the conversation. Rick may be telling a quick story or telling him (who knows what) but partially talking with his hands and not meant to be a handshake.
One thing that can be said about Pitino, his guys from UK really like him and are loyal to him. So, I find it hard to believe that he snubbed his handshake. Especially when he is standing there smiling and laughing during the conversation. Just makes sense this way, logical.
It was definitely a handshake. Watch as Rick starts to try to shake his hand a second time when Pope grabs his suit. Pitino made a jab motion like he thought he was finally going to shake. Pretty funny. At least that's my take. Either way, bfd.
It's surprising to see you guys think it was intentional. Pope thinks Ricky hung the moon. He didn't see the hand, and I guarantee after it made Sportscenter he called to apologize.

I was a big fan of Pope after he transfered in. I actually got to shake his hand while he was sitting out his first year. I am one up on Pitino.
Can't blame Pope in that situation. I respect Pope for trying to keep it polite while declining to make contact with Fifteeno. I wouldn't shake Fifteeno's hand unless I was wearing an outbreak hazmat suit.
When you see guys from the RP era of UK, there seem to be two groups. One group is loyal to RP first and then UK. The second group is those that are loyal to UK and believe Rick is a traitor by going to UL. Mark seems to be a member of the second group. Go Mark!

I think your description of the handshake is just wishful thinking. I saw nothing even close to a hand shake, besides there was no occasion for a hand shake the game was not over. lol
