No Talk About The Game Today?

did @IL Wildcat do his scouting report? I'm sure he did - probably need to search it and bump it

Like all games, nervous about this one - especially after our meltdown earlier in the week.

We have been pretty mediocre on the road. Played A&M, Vandy, and MSU close, but lost, and got destroyed by UT. We were down by 30 at one point. Final score was not at all indicative of how bad we were.

I am just hoping we can keep it close and make a run at the end. Egbunu has to have a big game for us to have a chance.

I'm pumped up and ready for it. :cool2:

Well we need it! Cal intimated he was going with Skal today. Good move we have to have him. Would like as others to see him mix in a little zone. Will we finally see Tai? Could use him if he is now comfortable and knows plays.

watched your game vs WVU; y'all looked pretty good then.
Cats really need to control the boards today. But mostly they need to come out hungry and focused. Alex and Derrick need to step up big time - and I'm hoping Lee and Skal can hold onto the ball
Not quite so worried about the guard play - unless Briscoe goes to the line

That game was an anomaly. Not saying we aren't playing better - because we are - but we were hitting threes all over the place, which an aberration as we are among the worst in the league.

All I am saying is that we played our best game of the year against WVU. We barely beat a .500 Arkansas team at home during the week. I expect UK to come out and play one of their best games of the year. We need to match that intensity.

I'm not one of the big posters on here. I read more than I talk. But I think there's little discussion on the game because people genuinely don't have any idea what to expect.

If the team that played Kansas shows up, it could be a barn burner. If the team that played Tennessee shows up. It's going to be like pulling teeth to sit through the whole thing.

This..Cats have nothing to worry about..will be a double digit win..You wont see the UK that played @ Auburn,,@ Tn.

Time to right the ship. Glad the game is in Rupp because I saw what y'all did to WV in the O-Dome and was impressed. Here's to a good game.

We never know what kind of team we're going to put out on the floor this season so I'm not sure what we can talk about. Really my only hope for the game is the Gators don't bring the screaming Banshee that appears at all of their home games.

The fouling issue wont be solved til Cal is gone....Refs hate him..gonna have to live with it

I can say this much. It will be interesting to see what adjustments Cal makes. To an extent, I think Cal is overwhelmed with all of the work that needs to be done with so many players. I really don't think he knows where to start with this team, sometimes.

But I think we'll be seeing Cal call for a more balanced offensive attack. Murray can't be allowed to go 3 for 12 from 3 point range. More people have to be involved in offense. My guess is, we're going to see Cal work to get that done. Not only today, but for the rest of the season.

This is a must win. ESPN has UK on the bubble and we are riding a two game losing streak. After UK lost to auburn and UT I said NIT out of frustration but never actually meant it. However lose today then I will actually mean it when I say UK is on the wrong side of the bubble. Win today then I will be much more comfortable. Florida RPI is around 20 so they will make for a quality win.

Does this team look ragged on offense to you guys? To me, it looks like every play has no flow to it at all. I know Cal wants them to play with a sense of desperation, but does every play have to look like their desperate. I look at other teams and there looks like some continuity (flow) to their offense. If a team can just sag their defense on us we just seem to fall apart.

We will see if a few days concentrating on defense will help this UK team. Will be interesting to see what kind of whistle we get playing at home. The last game vs. Vandy at home, they shot 25 free throws to our 6. A similar discrepancy today, against a good Gators squad could mean a loss for the Cats.

Until the CATS solve the fouling issue I have no idea what to expect. I am really starting to hate this freedom of movement rule though.
You mean until the refs do their job. UK doesn't have a fouling issue really the refs have a calling the game fair issue . We played well enough to win by 10 at UT ( though we still didn't play great) and we lost due to shady reffing 2 games in a row. I hope we get a decently called game today but I am not holding my breath. UF is much better then they were in December though so I will say UK by 8 .

I suppose it is from 40+ years of experience watching the difference between the kinds of effort I see both Kentucky and all of their SEC games played on the road exhibit.

It really is a thing of confidence and momentum.

On one hand, SEC teams (like Big12 teams on the road in Allen Fieldhouse) come in with little or no confidence of truly leaving with a "W" and they play tentatively from the outset (most of the time, as a general rule). Also, they have little to no fan support with virtually all 23,500 fans wearing Big Blue.

In a similar way, Kentucky, while enjoying as many BBN fans that snag every available seat to watch a UK game in the other teams' house, Kentucky teams (especially the young ones, which is ALL of Coach Cal's teams) have been known to suffer from a lack of confidence from time to time. It has led us to some of the losses we've seen in the Cal era, in my opinion, that's been the key deciding factor in a lot of them.

Think :
Darius Miller missing that perimeter shot late in the Ole Miss game (on the road)
or the instant confident vibe Joh Wall had in his very first UK game (in Rupp) when he canned that last second shot.

In years like this one, UK knows it can - and will - win our home games. Because we've stumbled on the road, there is a greater imperative to win all our homes games, moreso than simply the incentive not to lose a home game - period.

I see Florida, while having improved their game from the confidence angle, might still suffer from that feeling that seemingly haunts all road teams in Rupp Arena.

ie - It's been a long season (from the average UK fan's perspective), getting near the end of a not necessarily good year (at least, not yet) and the real question is : will Kentucky play really poorly, lose enough confidence for what otherwise should be a comfortable home win .... OR .... play as good as it can and get an impressive (even if it is at home) win.

conversely :

Can Florida overcome enough adversity in their improved confidence to win a game like this (on the road) and shock everyone else. The Knoxville game showed how that, coupled with a bad game can doom a team from the outset.

I don't think many would say the Gators has more than a punchers chance. Then again, the same analysis would have - and did - lead us all to simply not see the Tennessee game turn out the way it did (but then again, it WAS another road game).

Heck, I can't even straight up pick a game this year, it seems. So I'm going to go 80% UK feels confident in their talent and abilities, gets a good game from some of those struggling with consistency, and Florida, while improved, not enough to go in to Rupp and play well enough for the full 40 minutes to exit with a "riding the high crest of the confidence wave" and surf to victory.

That's my alpha to omega thoughts going into this one.

As always, good luck to the good gators that visits every season, for a good game and go big blue !

3 things Id like to see happen this game:
  • Less fouling from the bigs
  • Not having to jack up a shot as the shot clock runs out
  • and a W
That's all. If the first two happen, the third will follow.

Another showing like the Auburn and UT games, the suicide rate among BBN with be out the roof!! FOCUS, FOCUS, FOCUS

Cal needs to put Skal in and leave him in..needs 25mpg from now on..Let Lee play the role he did in 14. energy guy for few min......Skal is the key to a run in the NCAAT...

You still want to talk about it? @Gators300
Lol. How the f*ck have you guys lost 6 games? The announcers actually said the phrase "it's raining threes." And without Poythress. We certainly didn't come to play. I guess I can hold out hope that you guys collapse in the second half.

Anyway, I will be there in Gainesville in March when you guys come to town. Hope the team decides to show up for that one.
