No other team

The frustration with Cal's teams, as always, is the talent doesn't produce while wearing a UK uniform.

NBA Locks (in order of probable draft order & not saying all will be this year):
Dillingham
Sheppard
Edwards or Big Z
Big Z or Edwards
Reeves
Wagner

NBA Potentials
Bradshaw
Ugo
Thiero

Maybe Overseas
Mitchell & the NBA potentials above

With that much talent, a Final Four should be a foregone conclusion. But no.

Lottery picks based on potential. Experience in a loser go home tourney is far important. This has been the problem with our program for the last 12 years. It takes a while to learn how to play at level that is successfull in ncaa games

Talent doesn’t always win but experienced talent does most of the time

When the pressure is on freshman usually fold.

We have seen it time and time again. I am sorry to say this year won’t be in different. This team has buckled under pressure throughout the season.

Take the Tennessee game. It seemed we dominated but if there had been another minute left in regulation we would have lost

As much as we blame Cal for our lack of success in the tournament. I think the it is warranted but not for the reasons most fans think. It’s not coaching that’s the problem it is the system.

You just can’t teach experience. Ut just takes time. The years we were successful in the tournament, we just had so much better talent and was able to overcome the lack of experience

Now with the transfer rules it has gotten even harder with our system. I will me surprised if we win 2 games. We will have to shoot the three exceptionally well and I don’t see us doing that six straight games.

I expect us to get behind and someone tries to take the game over which has been the issue all season

I love this team and hope that I am wrong but I’m not.

I agree. Of course, implementing a system of choice is part of coaching.

And we as fans, have long criticized Dean Smith for doing less with more. Cal has done even less with even more.

Very convenient that you cannot be wrong. Either you or correct, or we have so much talent that it doesn’t matter. Really set yourself up for success

But to be fair Dean Smith had his players for mostly three to four years. Big difference

We don’t have that overwhelming talent this year
2009, 2011,2014 and 2015 we did have. We got three final fours and one title

I’m not defending Cal because he chose this course and it was a disaster. 12 years and one title I would not consider that a success.

Alabama, Duke, Michigan, Arkansas and Houston all had multiple first round NBA draft picks last year. Out of those teams, only Arkansas even made the Elite Eight.

But you knew that when you posted this trolling thread, right?
Oh sure, teams with lots of talent don't make Final Fours every season. BUT, no one has made a habit out of it quite the way Cal has over the past several seasons. And really there's no argument to be made otherwise. It is what it is.

There's a tear in every beer in Louisville this week. Nothin' goin' on there and getting turned down by every coach. Ghosttown.

Has two lottery picks . This tournament should b a piece of cake . Look forward to number nine .
For what it's worth, the lottery hasn't happened yet, so we don't actually know if we have 2 lottery picks or not...

What are you smoking? Nine other teams had no problem beating a team with 2 lottery picks, including poor little UNCW who got beat by 30 by another JV team.

Because NBA draft picks are based on how good GMs think a player will be, not how good he is currently. People act like Booker now is the same player he was at UK, but he's ten times the player now. We may have guys with tons of potential, but that doesn't mean they're the best players in the tournament right now. We saw that against Texas A&M. Our guards got embarrassed time and time again on defense.

You compare a guy like Dillinghman to a guy like Shead at Houston. Dillingham will be drafted first, but Shead is the better player now. Go look at EvanMiya's player ranking. We have 1 guy in the top 25. Houston has 3, UConn has 4. We have 2 guys in the top 100 (Dillinghman and Reed) but Marquette has 4.

To act like a Final Four should be a forgone conclusions because we have guys who will be drafted high isn't how it works. We have guys that will probably be elite five years from now, but objectively we don't too many guys who are elite now.

One of the routine comments about the draft is that the pros draft upon potential. Now, believe it or not, those potential players won't suit up and play this tournament. Those potential pros are freshmen and have been freshmen the entire year. Really. Put those eyeballs back in their sockets. They may be fantastic players one day. Both have played fantastically at times this season. And both have done the kinds of bone-headed things that freshmen players do.

Another element of the draft -- even the lottery -- is that the choices are gambles. Gambles that often don't pay off. Because, and put your eyeballs back in their sockets again, nobody can predict the future.

Another element is that the difference, top to bottom, in the skills of college players is not as great as lots of people imagine. Even people who frequent sports boards. Lots of people like to pretend to having magisterial athletic evaluation skills. Which is undoubtedly why they do it for free on sports boards.
