I don't think it's necessarily a lack of effort. Skal's weak as a kitten, Poy is Poy and Lee would be great as a garbageman-type alongside another good post player. Would've loved to seen him play with Lyles this year. As it is, he's only good for putbacks and lobs, and those are hard to come by since our other bigs are total non-factors.
I knew our frontcourt would struggle, but I didn't think we'd be this bad. Going to be a long year.

At this point in the 2013 season, we didn't know how bad we'd be. I have a funny feeling we'll be lucky to make the tournament and end the regular season unranked. This was atrocious.
This is going to be a terrible year. It's starting to look more and more realisitc that this team will actually be worse than '13. Skal is probably the biggest recruiting bust ever. He can realistically produce games with stat lines like 0 points, 0 rebounds, 0 blocks and 8 turnovers. I'm sorry I know everyone wants to boost him up but it's getting comical now. He simply can't play at the college level.
Poythress is Poythress. He will have one good game and everyone will think he's turning the corner. He will then follow that up with 10 straight games where he's the worse player on the floor.
Briscoe has to be benched and I'm starting to not care with who. Other than hit layups he can't do anything at an acceptable level. Hawkins when recovered needs to take his starting job.
The offense needs to be funneled through Murray. Maybe that doesn't sound great because of his decision making but he is the only one that can score. We can't wait until the second half and the game is over for him to start hitting shots. We need to draw plays for him in the 1st half.

I'd be lying if I said I wasn't concerned.
I still think this team is going to be OK though. I really do.

After watching OU and KU last night it has to make one wonder why we can't get guards that can create and shoot like those two teams had. From what it appears to be Murray is the closest thing we have to that.
The key for this team being successful all along was Skal being an effective inside presence scoring inside and out and blocking shots. He has that potential but he's way to soft and has zero confidence now. He's thinking before he does anything on the floor. No natural instincts at all. Alex and Lee would have been at their best benefitting from the attention that Skal should have been getting. There's a reason Alex and Lee are still on the roster and that's because neither of them can do much offensively outside of dunking. Don't tell me Alex is back because of his knee injury. He wouldn't have gotten drafted last year if he had come out.
Bama becomes a must win. Ulis has to make his jumpers, Lee has to stay on the floor and we have to defend much better in the half court. In 2013 we lost to Bama where I thought that was a must to get and we had them down 11 in the second half.
We'll know this weekend if this is the worst, but if we win I feel maybe this team won't be as bad as the 13 team.

Take 2 months off and watch again in March. We don't get the officiating to over come weaknesses like many other programs do. So do yourself and uk a favor and back away before you pile on too much negativity

Brandon Knight team started 1-6 against the SEC, I think I'll wait for a little longer before I decide if this will be the worst team of the Calipari era. Some of you people are pathetic
You are going to blame the refs? Are you kidding me? They missed a few calls but overall we got out coached and played and most of the night LSU was a bully and we took it running the other way. They went for blood and I give credit to them. They killed us.
You have the reading comprehension of a UL fan. I was saying if we were protected like other programs, we could over come poor games. How in the hell did you not get that from what I posted?

Well they aren't tigers but really it's not so much that. We have exactly two shooters among the 5 who get most of the minutes and no low post game at all. That's just not going to cut it.
Cal in general doesn't recruit shooters but usually does have a solid low post presence. Just didn't happen this year. Nerlens wasn't much of an offensive presence but if we just had his defense and rebounding we'd be a ton better. It's not going to happen with Skal. He has no confidence and Cal imo is not a coach who engenders confidence. But even a confident Skal would be extremely limited THIS year. So true, I don't mind losing at this point in the year a few times... We'll make the tournament, maybe a lower seed but we'll make it. I just can not stand the fair weather masses that pour on here after a loss. (I know you're not I see you all the time)
The 2013 team was 17-6 before Noel was hurt, I don't think they were a terrible team with Noel ... damn sure wasn't good, but they weren't this dysfunctional. Without Noel though that team was absolute garbage.
I'm not entirely sure about that. I'm getting a bad feeling about the rest of the season.
Skal turning out to be a dud has had a huge negative effect. He was the guy we really needed to be good to make this season work, and not only has he not been good, he's essentially been WORTHLESS, as we're better when he's on the bench than on the floor.
If Skal doesn't wake up soon the last half of this season could easily turn 2013 type ugly.

Yes it's a must win. Haven't you not been watching UK basketball? Sick of losing to these teams. The other Blue Bloods wouldn't lose like this. If we lose to them 1-2 in SEC.

Duke lost by 30 at home to an unranked Miami last year genius. Blue Bloods lose games too. We are a ways away from MUST WIN games.
You not wanting to go the NIT has nothing to do with the Bama game. We lost 6 conference games in 2011 and went to the final four.
This team has a talent and IQ issue, Bama game is just another game on the schedule, two thirds of the season left. I can guarantee you we will lose more games and still most likely will not go to the NIT.
