We may see several of our incoming group not be oad. I am not sure Green, Vanderbilt, Washington or Richards are one year players. They are good enough to go with Diallo and/ or Bamba and/or Knox and make a very good team

Jay Williams said tonite that none of the UK recruits looked like OADs. Then they interviewed one of them (Washington?) and asked about that.
Response was, still planned to be OAD. Should be interesting to see how that plays out. Is the alleged weak draft next year because there aren't that many OADs in the class? Green looks like a 2 year guy for sure, maybe a 4 year. I'd be down with that.

The thing is, they still consider themselves one and done. Listen to Vanderbilt's interview. The kid has full intention on only being here 1 year.

Kids come to UK because they want to get to the league quick. If they don't "fulfill" that expectation in 1 year - they get scared they are going to be over recruited and ride the pine at UK, so they test the NBA regardless (or transfer).

That's the issue.

We have become the destination for the OAD. I know we want to get the best players but I wish there wasn't a mindset of disappointment for those not quite good enough to be drafted high after their freshman season. It is really a quandry. What do you do, you certainly want to go after the best.

Dakari is a great example of this mindset

It's a dense view though. Just because it has happened before, doesn't mean it will happen again.

Calipari has had many players stay more than 1 year and not get recruited over or fail to make the NBA. If they fail to make the NBA, it's likely due to their own skills and not anything that happened at UK.

Almost every highly rated recruit who played multiple years at UK ended up with a bigger role in their 2nd (or 3rd) year as they had prior.

Jones, Lamb, Cauley-Stein, Ulis, Briscoe, Harrison twins...etc. The only guys who probably had lesser roles were Dakari Johnson and Alex Poythress, but that also had to do with the 2014-15 team being the most-stacked team of all-time.

I'm fine with these guys coming back. Experienced and long guys combined with 2-3 top level guys in 2018 could be deadly.

Every few years it just takes a few coming back to combine with another top class and you get a 2010, 2012, and 2015. I'll take all the other years in between where we still are top 4 seeds for years where we have SPECIAL talent.

And the thing is Cal almost has to recruit over them because he figures everyone will leave after one year. Cal would love to have a few overlooked 4* guys that are talented enough to where he can play them but not so highly thought of as pro prospects that they'll leave after one or two seasons, but finding guys like that who are willing to sacrifice and be role players when they can go somewhere else and be the man is easier said than done.

Vanderbilt and Washington both have high level ball skills at 6'8". Both can get to the rim at will. They wouldn't be coming here if they weren't high level player's.
I think next year's team is gonna be our best overall roster if we land Bamba. Cant wait

This is a weak class... but it's also a weak draft class. A lot of guys will go in '18 even if they aren't ready just because they have to draft someone.

I expect at least half of this class to return (assuming UK lands Smith and Bamba).

Green, Smith, Alexander - and then at least one of Washington and Richards. Vanderbilt, Bamba (if we get him), and Diallo are all sure fire OAD guys. Vanderbilt's athleticism will entice someone to take him in the first round.

Well right now we don't have great talent coming in. Good talent but very young and Cal will be coach of the year if he can get this team to the Sweet 16.

Now if Bam and IB return we have title hopes.

Our shot was against UNC to get 9 soo we will wait for years to be great again.

If Briscoe comes back and we get bamba or Bam stays, we are a more complete team next year. At least more balanced

Next year's team will be young and not as talented as some past classes. It's probably better than the 2012 class.

Green was already quoted as saying Cal told him during his recruitment if he was here more than 1 year then Cal would have failed him. He says that to every recruit, every single one. There is a reason they all try to leave at all costs Cal puts it in their head a year before they get here. All those guys next year are planning on leaving.

Stupid move on Dakari's part. We were very weak down low in 2016. He would have been the man down low.

Next year's draft will be weak, as mentioned. Bamba, Washington, Richards, Vanderbilt, Knox, and Diallo would only spend one year at Kentucky after training under Coach Cal for a season, I would guess

Sure, they may look raw right now, but those 6 have traits the NBA looks for in a recruit and drafts mainly on potential, as we have all found out over the last 7 years.

In my completely worthless opinion as always.
