New College Baseball Model

I think it would be awesome for Kentucky, it would help take away some of our disadvantage of our more northern climate than the rest of the conference, except Mizzou, which is on a slightly northern latitude than us. The only drawback is that some of the kids that we have pulled out of Big 10 country may elect to play for Big 10 schools.

Would also kill summer leagues like the Cape Cod League.

Somehow knew Michigan's coach would be involved. I think I saw an interview where he was pushing for this.

I would be very much in favor of this. MLB draftees would not be able to report until after CWS is over, but only moves the season back about a month, which is a heck of a lot better than freezing your butt off for the first half of the season with about 250 fans in the stadium.

This is a great idea. Not just for Kentucky but for the entire sport.

Yea, they would only have a month or so to play before school starts again, although kids from schools that don't make the tourney would have more time. The thing the pros like about summer leagues is they use wood bats.

I am sure that is true, but college baseball ought to focus on college baseball, not what is convenient for MLB.

Those leagues are very much a part of college baseball though. A lot of kids grow up a ton in those leagues and come back to college a new player.

I like the idea. I don’t know about pushing it back the full month that is proposed but two weeks seems to make sense and the summer leagues should be able to still happen getting pushed back two weeks and shortening their season by a week, or maybe doing away/changing their playoff format to let guys get back to school in time for the Fall. There’s also multiple quotes from the coaches about pushing it back 2-4 weeks, I feel they are proposing a whole month and will be happy of getting met in the middle to 2-3 weeks. SEC was having their first conference baseball weekend the same time of the Men’s basketball tournament.

Some interesting potential changes in college baseball being discussed.
So their proposal is partly to cut costs yet it entails basically keeping the kids on campus 11 out of 12 months. Hell basically year round for the ones that make it to the World Series since most school years start mid August these days. How is that going to cut costs?

Well it will certainly increase attendance which will drive revenue
