New Coach

Sounds like we got a star assistant! Headed to be a HC in the future. Great recommendations from everyone. Top flight pedigree and he’s earned his way and been patient. You can tell he loves the game from his journey.

Well versed in all aspects and areas of baseball. I always think former catchers make good coaches.

At Southern Miss they don't list who the volunteer assistant was, but they had 3 listed assistants... I believe that he would have been the volunteer there as well. Not sure he was the main hitting coach there.

Looks as if he was the hitting coach as his bio refers to "Ammirata's hitters." However, other coach, Creel, was alluded to as being in charge of the offense. Regardless, Southern Miss has been a good program for years. Ammirata's experience in Mississippi JUCOs could help too.

Hard to say. Bios are always difficult to discern. He's versatile though, which is pretty unique. Coached pitchers and hitters.

Not sure I enjoy the JUCO connection. Mingione has, IMO, shown a strong reliance on JUCO players, to the detriment of developing younger HS talent. So, wouldn't surprise me to see him going that route again with a guy that has those JUCO connections.

I firmly believe in JUCOs from a maturity standpoint. The key is don't totally rely on them, as you say, to the detriment of the HS guys. When son was playing always enjoyed fall practices to see the 3-6 JUCOs his school brought in, guys could really play.

There’s a lot of talent in the JUCO ranks. If I’m not mistaken, Miss State had quite a few big contributors from JUCO. I’m with Comebak in that Mingione has relied way too much on JUCO’s.

I’m anxious to check out the new kids this fall. I like to occasionally watch them on Sundays. I still don’t see how Mingione gets another year.
Yeah it’s not about the kids. It’s about their coach who has been a complete failure since his first year. Frankly, the players deserve better and it is mind boggling that Barnhart doesn’t have balls to pull the trigger. The entire terrible situation lies at Mitch’s feet.

I agree 100%.
