Back in the late 80s when UK was placed on probation, it took all of 13 months to conclude it's ' investigation'. 13 months to interview people and supposedly to track the money trail from Casey to Mills' dad..to interview people regarding Eric Manuel and the taking of SAT test, etc. 13 Months.

Today, the UNC 'investigation' has been going on basically since what, 2010? When academic irregularities at UNC first came out regarding their football program? In the last 6-7 years we've had UNC players sue the university, an investigation at the behest of the Governor, academic people writing a book about the cheating, a player on a National Championship team saying that he was given grades and didn't attend classes, etc, etc. 6-7 Years.

Something isn't quite the same...is it?

The Louisville stuff has taken 18 months and it's not done.

Supposedly the Syracuse investigation went on for 2+ years before they reached a conclusion.

It sure isn't. Another interesting thing about the UK investigation was the UK President pretty much begged the NCAA to put us on probation. We were so cooperative we agreed to everything they threw at us.

I still think the Emery package deal was bogus and never added up. But Coach Casey got a nice settlement check from them. Are they still in business?

UNC has stonewalled for 7 years and will never cooperate with the NCAA investigation and I doubt the NCAA even cares.

Correct. Roselle basically just said "we're guilty of whatever you say we are. Just let us know the penalties". Proof that doing the right thing doesn't pay. Duke with Maggette and Thomas (2 ineligible players) - nothing was done. UNC simply argues each allegation regardless of how much proof there is - they are convinced that they will just keep at it until the NCAA gives up. Sadly, they're probably right.

i think the pepper's transcript leaked in 2011. still 6 years is unreal. the ncaa had enforcement agents there well before 2011 though and all during that time. we need a timeline it's been so long is all i know. mccants, wanstein, crowder etc etc. this scandal could be a history class.

the biggest hypocracy i still say is unc was on probation when this first leaked and after wanstein it should have been automatic and immediate lack of institutional control. the ncaa actually thought they were about done cleaning things up when it broke. what a slap in the face and epic breaking of trust/compliance. unc never complied once. embarrassing lack of respect for the ncaa and every member for that matter. and the ncaa helped them stall. this is the ultimate preferential treatment in their history.

It is a different world we are living in today. I have been saying since this came out about UNC** that noting will be done to that school. Money talks into day's world & UNC** has the money to fight and drag this out. I am sticking to my guns & will be very surprised if the NCAA does anything major to UNC**.

I think its the COI's turn in the UL fiasco. Just waiting on their decision.

We had already had the 100 hand shake thing surface 2 years earlier...the football team had problems with Curci ,and they had snooped around the basketball program and told Cliff Hagan to clean some stuff up. When the Emory thing happened and the Eric Manuel ACT cheat came out the AD had no choice because we were about to get the death penalty.

Remember how quickly the Cam Newton issue was cleared up for Auburn? That took what, 2-3 weeks?!?!?! Couldn't have been because they were in the BCS title game, and ratings (and $$$) would most likely plummet if he not played.

The technology to do the investigation back then was far superior to what we have these days. :uzi:Can't expect too much from the NCAA or you'll continue being disappointed.

Yea I remember David Roselle was ready to accept the death penalty had the NCAA dished it out. The Emery deal was never proven just alleged, I'm sure some UCLA alumni worked for Emery and it was payback for Kentucky getting Chris Mills out from under their nose. Kentucky cooperated and UNCHEAT is fighting it and dragging it out for as long as possible all while thumbing their nose the rules. The North Carolina athletic association needs to be brought down.

Isn't quite the same and still shake my head knowing they sent an ex-UNCheat football player in to investigate. LOL

Speaking of Emery packages randomly popping open, did any human being ever lay eyes on the package that supposedly contained $1000 dollars from UK to Claude Mills? And if so, what became of it? My memory is fuzzy on the specifics.

IMO, as others have said, I firmly believe that was an absolute 100% UCLA setup.

Roselle did not care about athletics and was happy to throw UK sports under the bus. I used to get so angry at him. Whenever he was asked if he was going to defend UK, the first words out of his mouth were, "if by defend, you mean cover up. Then no".

I wanted to go through the screen after him. I never knew or heard one UK fan wanting a coverup. All we wanted was the truth.

He didn't care about the truth. He just wanted it to go away. And so, he accepted the harsh NCAA punishment.

Also, I have always felt that Eric Manuel was screwed royally. His career was ruined.

And I have always felt that he could make a ton of $$ by writing a tell all book. But if he is innocent, he has nothing to tell.

Since hasn't said anything,I feel he was innocent and knows nothing.

Face the unhappy facts: UNC has handled this in as smart a way as possible. They have outwitted the NCAA at every turn. Their lawyers and legal advisers will be the real MVPs tonight.

Whatever happened to Eric?

I don't believe so, and if I recall Dwayne Casey (who was blamed for sending the package) sued Emory and won something like $1million.

"In 1990, Emery Air Freight settled a $6.9 million lawsuit with Casey, who had sued for defamation. The N.C.A.A. lifted the five years' probation it had imposed on him."

The NCAA lifting the show cause penalty against Casey is pretty telling that even they didn't think the package existed.

Gawd I hate UNC*** .... I never had an issue with them, 2009 they were winning a championship and I was down in the dumps with Billy Clyde ... I believe UNC*** crushed us that year or the year before... still I never hated them.

Then we got Cal, and I started to pay attention to UNC*** because there was not competition again.

I started to notice we had players leave after 1 year and somehow they got 5 star players back for 2 years and 3 and even sometimes 4 ..... This started my anger at UNC***. Call it jealousy if you will, but I really had an anger that their players were held back and lost money... I hated Roy Williams for this, even though I once enjoyed watching their teams in the mid 2000s run run run....

Then the slime came out... which I didn't catch on to really until 2012 or so after we won the title. I was late to the UNC*** cheating slime party.... probably because I didn't know about it because espn never said a word and I didn't really read message boards till around 2012.

UNC*** is everything that is wrong with college basketball..

I don't hate Louisville anymore, I don't care about duke, I don't even mind Kansas anymore... the way I see it now is we are all one against UNC*** and the gigantic cheating advantage they have and no punishment.

Not true that Roselle was ready to accept the death penalty. He took what they offered to keep from getting the death penalty. Sure, there was things that could have been contested, but it would have hurt us in the long run.

With what the NCAA did to Penn State and Miami has them scared they might make a wrong move.

If UNC had won it last year I believe this investigation would have been wrapped up last summer...they lost, unc delayed, now they likely win tonight then let the hammer fall...likely a tack hammer at best, so don't get your hopes up.

I heard Roselle say in an interview that it could have been the death penalty and it was close, take it for what it's worth. Obviously I'm glad it wasn't, but the biggest part of it wasn't ever proven.

I don't know about that. Yeah, he bent us over and let the NCAA put it to us. And that might have kept the death penalty off the table. But I don't think he would have cared if they had used it.

And he sure got out of town as fast as he could!

It took the NCAA all of 15-20 minutes to contact Drew Franklin about the video of Gregg Marshall's wife after he put it on social media. They threatened to take away his credentials for the rest of the tourney..

If we were close to getting the death penalty for what turned out to be, perhaps, a bogus payment, and one...one player cheating on the entrance exam, UNC should get it several times over.

the hardest evidence being cited by journalists is the wanstein report. grading unc's evasiveness, that was stupid as hell for them to do. the ncaa (doing nothing) are the mvp's of unc's four year run.

Took the NCAA less time than that to contact UK about awarding Cal the wrong number of victories for a celebration as well. It is a corrupt, rotten to the core institution. I have lost all faith in the integrity of college basketball.

I think I read somewhere that UNC has paid over 18 million in legal fees fighting this. That seems incomprehensible to rack up that amount in legal expenses. But, as history has shown, if you go the OJ strategy,it can reap benefits. Compare that to UK's stance 29 years ago to not contest it.

Do not think UNC will get hit by the NCAA so I hope the investigation continues for years. They have only signed one MC Donalds AA the last three years. They will lose the majority of the six they have this year, unless something changes dramatically in recruiting their program is about to take a big hit
