As I stated on another thread. Recruiting and developing will always be important but I would argue even more important now is getting players in the portal who are proven commodities and paying the right guys. Make no mistake about it. This is professional football, no longer are these guys amateurs. Why not a cap on NIL?

I suspect a cap would face a successful legal challenge: third parties are typically prohibited from interfering with the contract between two others. I think the pro sports leagues get away with it because player Unions agree to it.

This program will never be competitive again along with 80% of the rest of the programs out there if ncaa doesn't work to create more parity in some way. It will eventually kill the sport. Most people I know only follow pro sports these days and I think a big part of it is lack of parity in ncaa.

In short: NIL destroyed college sports

congrats to all those who cried “muh poor student athletes!”

Maybe not the entire sports....but watch how many football programs fold tents.

1. The UT Martin, UTC, Toledo, South Alabama, La Lafeyette,, Troy, etc... of the world will start to fold.
2. The fanbase of rest of schools that are not SEC and Big10 will get squeezed. How long do you think fans of MAC, Pac10, AAC, etc... will be cool with watching their better players get NIL away after they took them out of HS and developed them?
3. Then the lower P5 schools....Vandy, possibly Ky, NC St, Indiana, Mizzou, etc... you think the fans will be invigorated to watch their better players get Nil to bigger schools.

Bama, UGA, FSU, Auburn, etc...are filling spots they have with other teams they compete with from their better players today. I mean it's always been sort of not a great job to get a ton of 5/4* players at Bama, UGA, Ohio State,, etc..and beat conference foes. Now you're doing that and taking their better players and beating them. It's essentially a glorified AAU/travel ball team. The big deal will be getting old sooner or later.

I mean if Saban is such a great coach....why did he do 1 year in NFL....and was not very good and bolt back to NCAA/Bama? If he was the 2nd coming of Lombardi......why was he a nothing burger in 1 year in NFL?

My interest in college athletics is at an all time low and sinking fast. If football is a business and the players need to be paid then every other sport is a failing business that should go under. Pay the players with the money they are pissing away on those businesses.

Missouri is very active in NIL. They're buying top players like no tomorrow right now.

During the broadcast of the Michigan-Indiana game Joel Klatt all but said that in the era of portal/NIL Indiana football fans might as well find something else to do on Saturdays in the fall.
